If phone is minimized for any reason, it will NOT end phone calls or respond to keys

I have discovered an annoying issue.

If I am on a call and I minimize the phone, or switch to some other app, and then return to the phone the phone no longer acknowledges the phone's keyboard.

Example: If I am asked for an account number or address, and I go look at it so I can read it to the person, afterwards I cannot hang up the call. The only choice thus far is to restart the phone entirely!

Example: If I move from the phone to an app and back and am am on a menu that says "To go Here Press 1" and I can press 1 twenty times and all it does is show 1111111111 in the readout but the menu never "hears" me pressing it - AND I cannot end the call. Ditto for trying to enter an account number, etc.

Even going in and Close All for all apps does not end the call.

I must restart my phone to get it to end a call.

So, the answer thus far is, do not ever minimize the call. But that is unacceptable. Too many times I must switch apps while on the phone.

That's odd. Have you tried clearing the Cache on the Dialer app (from the Application Manager)? I never had any issue with my Note and I also switched from the dialer all the time, even turned into floating window and could still go back and forth. Does it happen with a headset or car audio or just with the phone?

That's not an inherent Note8 bug. I often multitask with the phone app on my Note8 and it works properly. Obvious questions: Do you use the stock dialer app? Does it work properly in Safe Mode? Are you rooted, or running custom firmware? Do you use any third-party optimizer or package-disabler apps? Have you disabled any system services?

Try the suggestions from SpookDroid and Gary (i.e. clear cache on the app, restart in safe mode).

I'd also try to shut down your phone and then while it it off, hold down the Vol Up button, Bixby Button and Power button at the same time and hold until you get a droid icon to appear. This will boot you to a menu with several options. use the arrow keys to scroll down to the one titled, "Wipe Cache Partition". Be careful to choose the right one, as the one right next to it is to Wipe/Reset your device. Choose the option with the power button, confirm and then reboot your device after it says complete.

If the suggestions/questions from the others/myself don't work, your next option may be to wipe/restore the device. While that may suck, if it resolves your issue it would be worth it.

Or... just don't use your phone for phone calls anymore. :)

What version of the phone app do you have if you are using the stock dialer? The latest version (which I refuse to update to because Samsung won't say what it supposedly fixes) is 2.3.03.20 from the Galaxy Apps Store.

Ok, then your problem is that you're using an old, buggy version of a downloaded alternative dialer that you refuse to update.

Back the truck up there, buddy! I'm NOT having ANY issues with my phone app, I *was* trying to help out the OP. Read a little closer before you spout off like that.

Sorry, I confused you with the OP. You're right, I should read more carefully before I post.
