If you couldn't have a 6p, which phone would you choose?

I'd go back to the Nexus 6 I think. Maybe I'd take a look at the MXPE. I think I'm done with carrier models now... So that more or less eliminates the V10 and Note 5 by default.

I would have kept my moto x pure. If my 6p got stolen tomorrow though I'd buy another 5x. At $350 that phone is a steal even with its shortcomings.

I think it's a VERY good phone for the price. I had some lag and stutter issues with mine, and sometimes the camera was painfully slow to load. Plus I had some strange issue with some HDR pics not saving and not showing in my photos. Then after a reboot, some of them magically appeared. If they could get the performance worked out, that's an incredible phone. Great camera for the price, too.

I'm guessing that 6.1 will address those Nexus 5X issues. What is 6.1? Dunno... don't even know if its in the road map... but I am just going off past history. When the Nexus 5 was released, with Android 4.4, there were some serious issues, most notably with the camera software. These 4.4.2 eventually addressed them. When the Nexus 6 dropped with 5.0, there were a few problems there as well.... this time is was some kernel configuration issues. These were resolved fairly shortly when 5.1 landed...I think it was in February.

So with 6.0... even though 6.0.1 dropped already, I suspect there is a 6.0.2/6.1 looming on the horizon. And I would put money down that Nexus 5X owners will most likely see some significant improvements to smooth over the rough edges.

.... that being said... :)

You know, I seem to ignore the existence of the 5X when someone asks these "What if..." I am sure once the kinks are smoothed out, the 5X will be a great phone. But I think the size is just a wee off-putting for me. I've grown accustomed to the real estate I get with 5.5" phones and I don't think I'd want to give it up. So the most likely rebound phone would be the Nexus 6, especially considering the value.

The note 5 would almost be my go to phone. The camera and build quality/design ALMOST make it worth using as a daily driver despite Touchwiz.

With that being said, the 5x would be in my hands if I couldn't have my 6P.

I have an unlocked G4 and have a much better experience versus all the AT&T branded phones i've ever gotten. Gonna be hard to ever go back to carrier branded.

I wish carriers would carry the Nexus line :(

i have a note 5 and a iphone 6s, i can use the note for short times, but eventually TW gets to me and i get really annoyed and leave it in a drawer for a bit.

long term, if i couldn't have my 6p, i'd get a 6s+ i've found the regular 6s is too small for me.

If the Iphone 6s had a bigger battery I never would have jumped ship to Android. With the exception of being able customize Android, not to mention less expensive phones, the IOS experience is far more consistent and I don't care what anyone says they make THE BEST and RELIABLE hardware out there. Not to mention immediate updates!!!! Hey I can make Android work, but I'm not impressed....

I would not have purchased anything if 6p wasn't an option at this time .
So I would have just kept using Nexus 6 and Moto X Pure(2015), which I still have ,,to keeping/using on my second phone line.
I am also done with buying carrier model phones.

5X... I prefer to stick to stock android... but i could see going with a note 5 or the G4... maybe a sony.

and this has to do with the question on the post how exactly?

If I couldn't have the 6P, I would go with a Lumia 950. I like the 950 because it has a good screen size, the display quality is great, best-in-class camera, and I prefer Windows mobile to Android. I do like the metal body of the 6P, but the downside to that is there is no wireless charging.

Just some guy rambling about how iphones are gee golly they best! Yes immediate updates, which then if they brick your phone, ohh nbd!

I would definitely roll with the Note 5. I have an unopened Nexus 6P on m y desk right now. It is a great device but honestly I really fell in love with the Note 5. I had a 6P that I had to send back because I was sent the wrong storage configuration. The whole time while I enjoyed using it i found myself missing things from my Note 5. So when i had to send my Nexus back to be replaced I went back to the Note 5 and honestly i haven't really missed my 6P. The only thing that gives me pause is not even Tw, it is the slow rollout of software updates. Especially security updates. But that is not an issue that is exclusive to the Note 5 or Samsung.
