If you had to pick ONE ROM to flash.....

and only one that you'd plan on keeping, what would it be?

Reason: I just rooted (and feel liberated, btw!), but still don't want to mess too much until I get really used to the process. I just want something that's very stable to flash for the first time and that would be useful, sufficient to keep. I don't need instructions, that's pinned, just ONE recommendation that's very stable for the DInc.

Thanks, guys.....

Well that is a really subjective question. It really all depends on what you are looking for. Do you like Sense? Do you like AOSP or "vanilla" Android? Are you looking for extended battery life, or customization options?

When I first started I used Virtuous figuring I wanted to stay as close to stock as possible. Over time I've flashed many different ROM's, some I liked, others I didn't. I kept coming back to CM7, but it took me a while to realize how much I liked it.

With Nandroids it's easy to switch back if a new ROM does not live up to your expectations.

To get back to your original question:

Sense - Skyraider
AOSP - CM7

Thanks so much. From all of the reading I've done, those seem to be the consensus picks. I'd say I probably lean a little more toward sense, so probably SkyRaider. Would that be 4.3 for SkyRaider?

For the 'most stable', the latest stable release (7.0.3) or a nightly? That is, to keep for a while.....

Not only are the nightlies jusr as stable as the 'stable " release, they have bug fixes the stable version doesn't have. And you don't have to flash every single nightly, if you find one thst works for you feel free to stick with it. So grab the latest nightly, flash, and enjoy.

Thanks to all of you for some great info. Hate to be such a noob about it, but I guess I gotta start somewhere, and this is best place for help!

If you like Sense, try Skyraider's latest for sure but you should also give some of the newer Gingerbread/Sense 2.1 and Sense 3.0 ROM's. There are a couple that are very stable and quite smooth for a phone that will probably never see an Sense update and at this point may not even see the Gingerbread update.

If you want Vanilla, CM7 all the way!!!!!

If I was going to try out a Sense ROM I would defiantly go for one of the Gingersense ROM's, probably Nill's Business Gingersense. I know Skyraider has it's fans but I don't want to go back to Froyo and it's doubtful that Skyraider will ever see a Gingerbread update.

because skyraider is just for people who want a pretty much bone stock sense rom. and faster speeds.

then again i'm too much of a whimp to even flash a rom on my own without fear of bricking the damn thing.

I agree totally, although I keep returning to CM7 eventually :)
MIUI may also be in the next to flash list.
Sorry, there wasn't just 1 rom I can limit myself to,, I narrowed it down to 3 tho

miui......i know i know iphoney look alike but if you skin it with launcher its great!! the reason i love the camera, close to sense and you know sense camera is the best.

OMGB because it's vanilla with only a few mods, it's pretty much like having a Nexus S on Verizon

Some good feedback, thanks. I've flashed SkyRaider 4.3 and been really happy - no problems at all, super fast, and made it mine with GoLauncher.

But now I'm getting antsy to try Nils or maybe step into CM7 just to try them out ;)

If you like Sense you should totally try Nil's Business Gingersense 3.0. It was updated on Thursday I believe. It's very similar to his Gingersense 2.1/3.0 3D version but with a remappable Rosie right button and I've had almost no lag beyond what other Sense Rom's give you.

Plus I did a single bump charge and deleted my battery stats to give me a fresh start...so far today after light-medium use I'm still at 67% at 1711 and I think I took it off charge around 0900...best batt life from a Sense 3.0 ROM I've ever seen. I'll just have to see how it goes over the next couple of days and the battery level figures itself out but so far very encouraging, and as I said, a VERY smooth ROM overall. Really digging the new 3.0 lockscreen and the new 3.0 mail box as well.
