OOccasionally I get in these arguements over Android vs. iPhone with a buddy all of the time. He's a staunch iPerson.
So, after the rigamoro over the second coming this week on Wednesday, you'd have thought they'd have brought out something really really cool. Right?
So, I tell my buddy hey, you got FIVE rows of icons now! He says YAY.
I say, congrats...I had 5 (or more) rows of icons on my Droid X 3 years ago man.
That's why I don't get this fascination with iPHones. They're so behind it's ridiculous. And yesterday, Thursday, Apples stock reached an all time high.
Because.........?????
It really disgusts me that America is so shallow and name brand oriented that they run around with their hair on fire when Apple does anything..EVEN IF IT'S backwards.
They used to be progressive. Now, they're just stale, not inventive, boring even.
And America and the world love that?
It's all to do with the branding: Apple simply has a cool logo and a cool name.
As much as I love Android and it's flexibility and other things, we have a very sophmorish name and juvenile, Saturday morning cartoon character, logo. ( I know that'll step on some toes, but I can have my opinion)
When someone says 'iphone' and how cool they believe it to be.I've heard them LOL about the Droiiiiddd ringtone.
Same thing with Google plus. Sorry, it "sounds" weird. 'hey man, Google plus me' vs..hey man, 'Facebook me'.
Again, nothing personal and no offenses and I've been an Android fan a long time.
Our Droids are so superior and just simply more FUN and innovative, it's amazing. The iPhone looks and operates pretty much the same as it did when it first came out. It works very very well. It's stable, it's awesome.
And,
it's iYawn boring.

Maybe someone here can explain to me:
So, really America/world.
WHY...why are you so infatuated with an Apple that takes your intellect and your pocketbook for granted???

*The ipad is an exception. It is amazing and although huge, it is incredible in clarity, stability and ease of use. That said, after playing with a Note 10.1 yesterday, even that is changing.

That's what I've been trying to understand in a thread I started a few days ago on this same topic. Pretty soon and it's happening now, and Im loving it, the glorious iphone is gonna take the path blackberry has, once you reach your zenith, or top of the mountain for you that don't understand what I'm saying, you gotta come down. The lime light only last so long.

Refinement & ease of use is second to none on the iPhone. Customization and openness wins with Android. Each has positives & negatives. Either device works perfectly fine for 99% of people.

We were in the VZW store today and I stood back and wondered: SOOOO many Androids to choose from and people roaming around all over the store looking at them, laughing, enjoying the fun.
And, back on it's prized shelf, was the lonely, with nobody looking at it, the sainted and predictable.
iPhone.
I just don't get it.

Unlike AT&T, who pushed the iPhone, Verizon doesn't push it. Verizon is all about Android and that's proven with their Droid branded line of devices ranging from tablets to phones. The main reason Verizon wanted to offer the iPhone is so they could get that crowd of people. A person who wants an iPhone will buy it without looking into it since there is only one option other than colors. Android has many options so they will test them all out.

And to the OP, I agree. But getting inti arguments about technology preference is pointless. I like Android because of its openness. Others, such as my friend who's had both like me, likes the simplicity of the iPhone. All a matter of opinion and preference.

It's not really a fight. We just have this ongoing battle like between two guys and teams; like Tn/Florida which we lost AGAIN last night to.

Here's an email conversation we had last night when I told him I'd decided to keep my Maxx and get my son the SIII. One reason I said was I just didn't want to start all over setting up my phone.

Him: "I?m disappointed. I was sure hoping you were getting the SGS3 but I understand. No trouble to set up and iPhone, everything transfers either via iCloud or iTunes from computer in seconds, and will exactly like the other. "
Me: " 'Exactly like the other'.... Exactly my point. LOL"

I love the last line in his statement. Nothing like being unoriginal and generic. :)

I hope your son enjoys his new phone. I love how he wanted a different phone than you as if its not cool for his parents to share a specific phone type. Lol, I guess Maxx isn't cool because I'm sure a grandma out there has one. Shoot, my new Acura TSX is so uncool now too! I saw an old lady in one... trade in time!:D

Thanks, I'm sure he will because he has seen how awesome mine is. Yea, I actually gave him the choice to get a Maxx or a Galaxy SIII. And he was going with the SIII. Then today, I found an ad on Amazon for the Maxx for $99.99, free second day shipping. (New, I emailed and asked if it was refurbbed).
I told him we could get that, a cool cover to separate it from mine and some other bling for the amount we'd have to spend on a SIII.
And, I KNEW as much media as he'd be using, he'd run that SIII down.
He said he'd like that Maxx.
So...we'll be Maxximus X2 later this week.
That SIII is a really cool phone, I played with it in the VZW store...it is way faster and more responsive that Maxx. I dind't see the difference in the screen but some say they do.
But in the end, it's hard to think about worrying about a phone charge after getting spoiled to Maxx. NO worries man. Thing lasts forever.

I don't get it either. Why do people like to get shaken down for a less innovative, more boring, walled garden piece of two plus year old technology? I don't know. The only thing I believe Apple is good at any more is marketing.
Scenario:
Here is a Samsung S3 with incredible, smooth, innovative software and hardware. Bleeding edge! Amazing! On sale for $99

vs.

Here is an Apple iPhone 5 with technology that has been included in android for two years, but we are making progress. Same old design as eleven years ago. On sale now for $600

Hmmmmm. Would seem to be an easy choice. Maybe not

I have a macbook and i love it, i had an original ipod touch, and i loved it, i have an ipad and i use it all the time. I have a droid x and its the longest i ever kept a phone. Android is a great OS for people who need openess, who need tools and useful apps, who want to do everything with their phone almost as if it is a mobile computer.

The iphone... is perfect... for my 70 year old parents who just need something that works and is easy to understand. Iphone is like starting in kindergarden, android is like higher education. Thats how i see it. Perfect for some, far from perfect for others.

The new phone is very disappointing, but there's those foofoo people out there who just want it so they can say they have an iphone like a teenage girl

I know right? FYI, the Maxx was 99 bux, as far as I know, the SIII is still $199..

So yea, it's like this am, I downloaded the free app of the day Marble Maze. Great retro game I used to play.
But, if you had an iPhone..you can't do that..why do people like that stuff?
B-O-R-I-N-G....
Hence, my sig.
:)

The beauty of the Android is the customization. Apple locks there phones...yeah, I know you can jailbreak them, but the user experience is different. Most of the people I know that has iPhones are very "tech challenged". They live in the bubble known as Apple and that is where they feel comfortable enough. I mention "rooting" to them and they look at me like I am from another planet. They say "Well, we have Siri".....LOLOLOL

For the iPhone, if you do things Apple wants, it is fast. If you do anything outside their walled garden approach...good luck...

My wife had an old iPhone set up using iTunes on another computer with some pictures and music. Then on another computer, i set up iTunes and thought, sure, this will be a breeze, just connect the old iPhone, backup, connect new iPhone, and done. WRONG. There is NO way in iTunes to transfer pictures and music from an iPhone to a computer that wasn't originally sync'd to. it won't let you. I tried for an HOUR and just gave up. Was quicker just to copy pictures and music from my hdd to the new iPhone. So much for ease of transfer. I bet that I could spend years using the iTunes software and it would not make any difference.

In contrast, for android, take the old sim, put it in new phone, voila all pictures and music are transfered from one phone to the other...in just a few seconds. Android setup can take a little time, since different phones are a little different, BUT, pictures and music, if lost from the HDD, can easily be replaced back with Android. with iTunes, you're SOL...

Thats how it always works! The company sells it more than kiosks or others who are selling there phones!!!

Too bad Siri sucks. And I'm not being insulting, I've actually seen articles talking about people wanting to file class-action lawsuits against Apple cause Siri didn't work as advertised.
