Im about To Root my phone. Im really scared...

Okay I guess my phone is rooted from Enrevoked 3 and it said "Done". I look at my phone and I see super Permissions.. I click it and nothing is there.... so what do I do now.. wheres all the goodies at lol

The Superuser app doesn't do anything except manage which apps have Superuser permissions. When you use an app that requires Superuser permission, (like wireless tether, root explorer, titanium backup, etc) it will ask you to allow it.

When you run apps that require SU you will be prompted and asked whether or not to allow it.

What I did after rooting:

Immediately downloaded Titanium Backup from market (have not used it yet, though)

Downloaded Wireless Tether from market (free)

Purchased Root Explorer from market

From Root Explorer you can delete apps you don't want, very easy. I got rid of all the Sprint apps and Amazon MP3.

I have done little with this since I rooted, but plan on doing backups and flashing new roms etc later tonight.

I already gave you a list of things to do to start.

Once you do that, you can find other things to do. There's no magic button for what you're asking for. The information is already out there in sufficient detail on what you want do. You can start with stickies in this forum or by a google search to do things in addition to what was already suggested.

Get ROM Manager from the market as step 1, get Titanium Backup as step 2, these are two apps that will let you keep backups of how your phone is.

ROM Manager will also let you install different ROMs so you can enjoy different experiences on your phone.

You can get a wireless tether app for free tethering, or even over clock your phone's CPU with SetCPU.

Now that you're rooted, never accept an OTA update!

Okay thats to much work.. I got 1 question. Can I do software and firm ware updates with the unrevoked root on my phone. I wont be adding any roms and what not.

to much work? coming from the person who started a whole new thread wanting to put gingerbread on?!?!?! really??

your question has been answered multiple times already but here it is again... NO DO NOT ACCEPT OTA UPDATES when rooted. you need to flash the rooted OTA when it becomes available.

Yea this is nothing like preware... sorry. So how do I remove root from my phone if I used revoked..

Ok that method dosnt work. This is really ****ing annoying. I just my Evo to go back to normal. I read everything. Half of the things I read about rooting and stuff I cant understand. So will someone please just help me unroot my phone.

WOW... Your having some major issues... I rooted my phone the long hard way. Agreed with some of the other guys.. Had ROM manager and Titanium back up. All I did being rooted was remove bloatware, install wireless tether and themed my EVO to give it a much better look.... Also switched between several different ROM's just to get a better feel... I liked Baked Snack which is a pretty basic near stock ROM and swapped between several different Vanilla (Senseless) Android ROM's....

[GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS - xda-developers

This is a fairly simple way to unroot..... Just a couple of steps......

If your all ready rooted just install Titanium and remove the junk you don't want... Find a few ROM's and let ROM manager back them up and try some things out...

All I can think is WOW! First off there are stickies and posts all over these boards that cover every single thing you've asked. Rooting and what you can do when rooted is not as complicated as it seems. Now that you are rooted just delete the bloatware using Titanium (which you've been told to dl a number of times) and then use Titanium to make a backup. You can then download a free tethering app from the market and you can then tether for free. After that you can put roms on painlessly using ROM Manager if you want. If not then you don't have to. It is all very simple if you just take the time to actually read.

I second the WOW! I'll say the same thing here that I always said to people wanting to install Preware and patches on their Pre, if you don't understand it, you shouldn't try it.

It seems this guy was expecting rooting to work like Preware, he'd do it and install the app, then just select whatever he wanted to add from an extensive list and it's installed in seconds.

Clearly this states he didn't read everything about rooting and isn't listening to what anyone is trying to tell him.

I haven't rooted yet and, if I do try it, it will only be after much more reading on the subject, so I know exactly what I am doing.

3rd WOW lol....verwon im new to evo and android myself and i followed [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - 2011: A Recovery Edition - Upd. 01.02.11 - xda-developers and its like taking a walk in the park lol...but i did what your doing...i read read and read some more and kept reading...and i still do :P

always learning something :)

Isn't this the Same guy thats freaking about unrooting now?

Yes he has at least 5 or 6 post.... Between wanting to root, what to do now that I am rooted, how do I unroot, I can't get Wi-Fi to work etc.....

He seems way in over his head....

I read every thing there was to read on rooting and watched the two part you tube video on rooting your EVO and even though I have been rooted about 5 months I still read what other people have to say and try my best to keep my ROM's up to date as well as the Radio's and everything else.....

I think some people expected once your rooted you don't have to do any maintenance and it's just over and done with.... This guy changed his mind about 10 times in less than 24 hours....

Exactly! Even when I had ordered my Pre, I spent the week waiting for its arrival reading everything I could about it. Then, when it was in my hands and activated, I knew exactly what I wanted and needed to do.

I joined here awhile ago, because I was considering the Evo and wanted to learn more about it and that was long before I made the final decision to order one.

It's really a simple fact that for most of us tech geeks, there is never going to be a phone that will do everything we want out of the box. For some, applications can easily be found that add the functionality they need. For others, it gets much more technical, as they want/need much more.

The trick, however, is to pick a phone as close as you can get to your ideal and then go from there.

In one post, this guy said something about if rooting was like using Preware and then in another, he asked where all the goodies where, that's what clues me in that he really didn't pay attention to what rooting does and doesn't do.

Just an FYI for anyone that has never used Preware on a Palm Pre or Pixi, it only requires downloading 2 files to your computer. WebOS Quick Install and WebOS Doctor, QI uses the files from Doctor to make sure your phone is the correct version for what you want to install and to return some files to stock, if you want/need to revert back.

Once they are installed, you just use QI to access the WebOS Internals feeds and use it to install Preware. Once its in your phone, you won't necessarily ever need either of those downloads, again. You can access almost all patches, themes, apps, beta feeds, kernels and etc. right from your phone, by turning on the right feeds in Preware.

Uninstalling something is just as simple, Preware keeps a list of what you've installed, called Saved Packages, so you can launch it and access that information, at any time. Just go into your list, select what you want to remove and press the uninstall icon.

excuse me, i wonder if you could help me please? i have just bought an htc desire hd, running 2.2 android sense, i have just discovered to my horror that the text and font sizes are way too small for me to read even with my glasses on and there is no way of adjusting the size. i have looked on the net and theres alot of people with this problem, some are suggesting certain apps, like text enlagers etc, however i have downloaded a couple of them, and they either install ok, but do not work/alter anthing at all or they crash the phone with the screen constantly saying "loading"...... i have now been lead to belive that i need to have my phone rooted? would this be the best thing to do in order to get these apps to work? also, once the phone is rooted does that mean that iam replacing the operating software it is currently running or does it mean that its the same software running on it but its just "open"to alterations etc? and lastly do you know of anywhere i could take the phone to have this done or is there any simple software i can download and do it?
iam so sorry for all the questions but my head is spinning and i do not know what to do.
many thanks and happy new year.
