It may sound drastic but maybe start a new email account and transfer your contacts to that account...do a factory reset and use new email account as main account. Would this prevent any memory of old apps or files infecting phone. then use it for a few days with out sd card and see if the stock browser still does this. I would suggset cataloging what you have so you can re download at a later date ... I would wipe the sd card when I did a factory reset also...just tranfer the info to your pc first...unless you are afraid it could do the same thing to pc... sounds like some apps or files are corrupted or not playing nicely together.
It is drastic as no one likes changing email adresses...it's a giant pia.

Yes, I must say things were going wrong since I did the kitkat update. Issues with my lock screen not working, the phone going blank (black screen), Knox failed to open etc.
A few minutes ago I finished updating phone software as well as Knox. Cant see where to check re version etc (not a whiz kid with this stuff)........BUT, Gone into the browser a few times and all is working again. Knox is also working correctly again. We will see if this is going to remain this way.....mmmm? Will advise if there is any hiccups.
BTW, phone been driving me crazy telling me that my internet connecting too slow so it switches off! Finally found the the place to remove the tick for the "Automatically connect"......then it started to report that the internet is too unstable every 2 minutes. That mad me crazy too. However, this has not been the case today since the updates....who knows.

Go to settings, application manager, swipe to ALL, scroll to internet (tap), clear both cache and internet data. Close screen, now check. You may have to shut down and restart for changes to take effect.

I was having a similar issue but it was my own fault - I'd tried everything, the reboots, partition/cache wipes, recovery, clearing app caches... Still had the same problem: With internet browser, google browser, Kindle, and a couple of others, including sms messaging where the keyboard was slow and and would show a little panel with "Engish" as the language. Drove me nuts. In my device meanderings I had visited Settings, More, Developer Options and had gone way down the list to "Do not keep activities" and checked the box. Wrong move. Immediately had problems. Took my slow brain a while to figure out what settings I had changed recently. This was one of them. As soon as I went to Settings, More, Developer Options, Do not keep activities and UNCHECKED the box, everything went back to working normally and the bothersome "Unfortunately XXX has stopped working" has disappeared.
If you have Developer Options on your phone, check it to see if that box is checked. It's all the way down the Developer Options under Apps. Let me know if this helped.

Just saw your thread today. If you've already resolved the issue, please disregard this posting. If not, read on for a suggestion.

Swipe down from the top of your screen, touch the gear icon and select the 'General' tab. From this tab, scroll to the bottom of the page and select 'Developer options.' From there, scroll to the 'Apps' section near or at the bottom of the page, and make sure the checkbox for 'Do not keep activities' is unchecked. If you leave this option selected, it will immediately stop whichever app you are using if you knowingly or unknowingly cause the app to load a new page or refresh a page. For example, if you are browsing in Google and you decide to switch to another page or a saved bookmark, it will stop Google and display the message that the internet has stopped.

I've been having this problem as well. However I am unable to find the developer options from the system (gear symbol (from the top down screen swipe)). I am tempted to throw the phone into the river and give up over this "unfortunately, internet has stopped working" junk.

Ive started to use Chrome for the gmail and other google issues. I'm half wondering if it might be some virus/exploit. .

You can enable developer options by going to Settings - About Phone, and tap on the build number 7 times

I don't have this issue but I can lead you to developer options. It's not there by default. It's a cunning secret. If you never had it displayed though I doubt if this would be checked.
Anyhoo you get developer options by - wait for it - touching the Build Number 7 times I think, it will tell you how many more times.
The Build Number in About Device.

found is, did it Now to test it,

I did that, and I still have the issues. I did have four windows open in the non chrome browser, but the Internet stopped working not only showed up but kept those same 4 open each time I tried to close them down. In the end, it seems that the back button on the phone did more to get away from that than resetting did.

Thank you Ed Harriger!!! Unchecking "Do Not Keep Activities" box in Developer Options worked for me. Don't know why it was checked because I definitely am not a developer but working smoothly - didn't even shut phone down. An immediate fix.

Ed Harriger thank you for your solution. I top was having the same problem and also had adjusted some settings on my S3 and couldn't remember what I did or didn't check. I followed your advise and that is what solved my issue when I would try to close an Internet window "unfortunately Internet has stopped working " now it's working great! Thanks again

Hi, I was trying to download something from my internet browser on samsung S4. I got the same message.
It means your download manager has stopped working. I thought to check with google play if the same message will appear. I clicked on google play and got a message that i can't access google play because my download manager has stopped working. It asked me if i would like to enable my download manager again. I clicked yes. Then i got a message to restart my device. I restarted my device and it worked. The message didnt appear again.

I've HAD my "Do Not Keep Activities" unchecked and that error message for the internet still pops up. So yeah.

I tried what you suggested about unticking the do not keep activities box and thank god this has done the trick.I was almost ready to do a facorty reset but your advice has saved me.
