I'm new, so I want to ask about Privacy and Android

I dont have an android yet, but will by the next month.
I dont know the OS too well, but I wanted to see how private I can keep my information from my contact list. A verizon rep told me that i would be able to synch up my contacts and get thier info, like phone, email, FB and things along those lines.
Thats cool and all, but i really dont want that information unless i specifically ask for it AND i wouldnt want my contact list having my personal or work emails and phone numbers/FB account info unless i specifically gave it to them.

So my question is, am i paranoid and is all this controlled by me, as seen in my Blackberry or will my phone really be able to synch up w/ other Adnroid Gingerbreak/ICS OS and whatever info i put on my phone via contact and social networking apps, be seen by my contacts?

thanks guys....
and i'll need to read up on the SYNCH operation as i really dont know what that means since i dont have this feautre on my BB.
its not the general privacy issue that im worried about, its simply making sure that my contacts on my phone vs FB contacts vs any other contacts arent able to pull my information and vice versa...

Ive been trying very hard not to have my coworkers become my FB pals- i just want to keep things seperate.
I dont want my FB pals knowing my work email and address as its a big no no to get personal calls and email at work.

So thats what i'm referring to. On my BB, the FB app just allows me to open it and thats it, but i was noticing on some videos regarding android that its seems that its contact list has all types of information about those people....I just want to control that.....i can control that right?
