I want to improve battery life and get cool apps. I don't know where to begin. This is the first time I've rooted any device. I have titanium backup and hear I can delete bloatware but I don't know how. I also have greenify and ad free but don't really know how to use them or what they actually do. HELP THIS NOOB!! :-)

Removing stock apps is easy, assuming you know what you are looking for. You'll need to download Root Explorer from the Play Store. It's worth every penny. Navigate to your /system/app/ and hit the shaded button to mount as r/w (this means read and write). MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DELETING. I can't stress this enough. You could render your device unusable doing this. Simply click and hold on the apk you wish to remove and tap delete.
If you delete something essential to your os, it will not work again. It won't be my fault if you do, you've been warned.
You should read a lot over at xda before you go doing this.

One of the other cool things you can get is the Sixaxis controller app. It allows you to pair a ps3 controller with your device. It'll save you ~$50 in a bluetooth game pad. Also, the app supports loading touchzone profiles, to let you use the ps3 controller with unsupported games like Dungeon Defenders.

There's tons of cool stuff you can do when rooted. Just make sure you do twice as much reading as you do tweaking. If you are ever unsure of what you are about to do, read read read. Someone has done it before and raged on a forum about the result. Learn from their mistakes.

Step 1 using Titanium Backup. Set preferences to backup to sd card.
This backup makes it easier to restore apps in the future. Think of it like a system restore point. If you ever have to wipe the device just go download titanium backup, again set preferences and choose restore from backup.

2. Before removing any system apps it is highly recommended to freeze said apps and then wait a few days to make sure they dont inadvertently cause issues with other stuff. If you havent noticed anything out of the ordinary to proceed further. Click frozen app and then click uninstall.

Dont uninstall multiple apps at the same time unless you are absolutely sure it is safe to do so.

Btw. Other than for ease of making backups I dont use this feature, never have. Apparently it is very easy to brick your device. Usually I just wait for rom developers to do it for me. Installing roms is pretty straightforward. Just make sure the rom is designed for your device and is been vetted by the community before installing and you should be fine.

I have a feeling you watched my video on how to root the Note 8. :)

AdFree basically downloads a new host file that will block ads in most free apps. It's a pretty self explanatory program, it'll ask you to download and update the first time you run. Just download, update, and then start it up, there's nothing to worry about for AdFree, it can't harm your device.

Greenify is a little tougher, it stops things from running at random times. I can't remember which one, but there was a certain game on my list that would turn on my GPS in the middle of the night for who knows what reason. So it stops things like that from happening. When you boot up Greenify, click the + icon at the top right corner and it'll give you a list of apps that are running, have been running, and will run in certain circumstances. Just read through their descriptions and select the ones that don't seem to make sense. For example, I'm using Whatsapp, and it has every right to access my camera, change depending on my network etc. But why would Senet Lite (a board game) need access to my camera? Turn that off. In general I select all the apps that I don't want running in my background ever, regardless of whether it is suspicious or not. So I'll stop all my games and video players, etc, but keep things like Facebook and Whatsapp running.

It must have been your video, thanks a ton for the helpful video. Hopefully I don't do something dumb and brick my tablet, I'm scared to do pretty much anything! I wanted the every app multi window capability
