I'm Over It

Kept an open mind, didn't take it too serious, but I'm done. The battery issue....sure it's a big one...and I was prepared for some teething problems. I expected the battery life to change for the better with use, but not for the worse. While I came home from work with around 30% at first, I wasn't prepared to see 6 to 7% at the end of my eight hour work day now. And that was after a busy day when I only got to check the time of day maybe four or five times with absolutely no other smartwatch functions being called upon. So, Off it goes, back into Best Buys return bin....and stuffing that damned charger and cord back into the box?.....ain't happening.....somebody else's problem. Let me know when it's ready for prime time.

Do you have the display set to always on (i.e. Ambient Screen ON)? That kills the battery. Turn that OFF.

I been using mine for a week and was worried about the battery time. I start my day at 7 am and by 12 AM midnight I have about 30% still. Thats with 3 email accounts sending notifications throughout the day, along with Facebook, Instagram, responding to hangouts through the watch and the normal Google now cards. My ambient screen is off, connected to a Samsung S4

Currently 8hrs off charger 57% battery life left.

You've had nothing but bad experiences with your unit since you took it out of the box and charged it (which in itself was a problem for you -- if I am remembering my posts correctly). Maybe you have a bad unit, maybe you have a combination of unique usage patterns, hardware interface, and/or karma resulting in a bad experience; who knows? In any case, I'd say your decision to return is the right one for you and I wouldn't waste my time or yours trying to convince you otherwise. I hope (genuinely) that your return experience goes smoothly.

Good luck!

I've been making it comfortably through each day with plenty of battery life to spare. Right before I went to bed yesterday, it was at 38% with 18 hours off the charger....it was a long day. Ambient mode off.

I was also getting horrible battery life. Down to 15% by 4pm. The key word there is "was." I solved it. I know from past history of smart phones that battery life is almost always related to apps. One bad app can cripple a phone. Since the Moto 360 is basically Android I figured it behaved similarly. I did a factory reset of both my phone and my watch on Sunday. Since then battery life on the watch and the phone have been stellar. I'm currently at 5.5 hours today and the Moto 360 reports that the battery is at 85%. I've received at least 15 emails and 4 meeting notifications this morning. A typical morning.

I went from literally putting it in the box to return it to Best Buy to stellar battery life in one day.

The battery life was just the final straw. Even if I had gotten to the point where I had some juice left at the end of the day, I'd have to take the charger to work with me if I wanted to go any where afterwards. The inconvenience of the whole smartwatch experience soured me on the 360. All of the notifications it gave me were redundant. I receive the same information on my phone which is always within reach and it's easier to read. Just came down to I just didn't need it.

Actually, this is what every smart watch does. It is an extension of your smart phone. It's practically redundant by definition, only located slightly more conveniently on your wrist (and even then, "not so much" due to restrictions in functionality and screen size) I don't think a smartwatch is a good investment for you.

The OP's first post is very odd to me. I get great battery life with my Moto 360. I have had NO connectivity issues whatsoever. The display looks great, and I use it all the time.

Before the most recent update I was going 17 hours with 20% left before placing back on the charger, with medium to heavy use. After the most recent update, I have had the watch on now for 14 hours so far today, sitting at 50%.

Did you condition the battery? You need to let the watch drain to zero, then put it on the charger and let it charge to 100% completely uninterrupted. This can take over the two hours that the manual says.

Do this two days in a row and you should see remarkably improved battery life as the device learns what its true full charge capacity looks like (small voltage fluctuation).

It will be weird though, sometimes the charge level will actually go DOWN while it's on the charger. Don't worry, it's just the watch going, "Oh! I have more room in my battery than I thought! Mmm nom nom electrons..."

:D

I have no trouble getting through an entire day with ambient mode on now. Love this watch.
