In the last 48 hours or so, there's been quite a lot of disappointment in regards to a lot of things about the Galaxy Nexus and overall how Verizon is handling this phone and launch. I can understand why.
However, I still am going to get this phone. I'm not speaking on behalf of everyone here, just myself and maybe those that side with me here in what I'm saying.
I should state here that I'm coming from the OG Droid. So this will be a major upgrade for me. In that sense I might be a bit biased because I haven't experienced any technical leaps throughout the years. I haven't been tainted with the better performance that other phones have brought to the market since the OG's release. All I know and have experienced is what the OG offers. This is my personal opinion.
Now that being said, let's start with the basics....
Camera - Through reviews, it's reported to be an OK camera...nothing fancy. This is however, when it is compared to the iPhone's camera. There is no disputing over who's camera is better. iPhone does indeed feature a fantastic camera. I'm not getting a GN for the camera though. I understand that 5MP vs 8MP isn't all that big of a deal. I do understand that better sensors and lenses make a incredibly large difference. Also the features of the included camera are appealing to me with zero shutter lag, face tracking, time lapse and panorama, and the speed. Oh the speed of that camera. I fully embrace this camera and look forward to snapping pictures with it. Anyone buying a phone for just the camera should have their head checked.
Battery Life - It really will be subjective. Sure, it will be on LTE and I do live in an area with full LTE coverage and you can bet your butt I'll be on LTE quite a bit. There are apps our there though to help support increased battery life (Juice Defender) so I'm not fully worried. If I can get slightly more than a half day with this phone and with some heavy usage, I'll be more than satisfied. With the Verizon version including an 1850mah battery, well then that's just fantastic. It's really going to come down to how you use your device. It's just like a car, floor it all the time and you'll be out of gas in no time. I think it will be fine.
No Flash Support out of the box - NO FLASH YOU SAY! No big deal. It is a rare thing for me to deal with flash on my phone. The good news is, it will eventually come out for ICS and what's better as that we will get it. It's not a "never" type of thing, we WILL get it. Flash is nice, it's pretty looking and impressive on a mobile device, however I don't think it's a deal breaker at all.
No Removable SD card / Only 16GBs Rumored - First off, I think these days we'd be taking a step back if there was a removable SD slot on my phone. Reminds me of the floppy disk drive days. Everything is going with cloud services and streaming. Fantastic I say. Also, with LTE streaming should be a much better experience. I currently have a 16GB card in my OG and honestly, I probably have just half of it used up. Besides, I mostly run Pandora, Google Music and stream from my home server with Subsonic. I also fully embrace the improved read/write speeds that come with integrated storage. I thinks no SD card is a move in the right direction given the digital times we live in these days. However, if some of you are on one of the new Tiered Plans from Verizon, then I can see how needing something more substantial in storage would be a necessity. Even more so how an SD Card slot would be very much desired.
I'm sure there are a few things I'm missing here, but that's just it, I can't see what else I'm missing to make note of because I believe that I'll be quite happy with this device.
With so many mobile device options these days, you really have to consider how exactly it is you want to use your device. I fully embrace updates direct from Google, having ICS on a phone, the large screen, no-SD slot, 5MP fast shooting camera, LTE and whatever battery life I'll achieve. There really is a lot going for this phone, especially, ESPECIALLY if you're coming from an OG Droid.
One thing I really want to make note of is the community that this device will be a part of. Everything from Cynogen mod to Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast series of roms, I fully expect there will be great support from the community for this device. With overclocking (I'm sure we could easily get the GN to 1.5Ghz and probably beyond) which should greatly improve speed depending on how well the OMAP 4460 scales, to improved battery life with voltage control....and downclocking when the phone is in idle. The potential is vast with this phone especially given it's unlocked bootloader.
I really do think that the GN released, on whatever day it's released, will be a completely different version in a few months and even a year after that. I see it as a fine wine that will age well just as my OG has. The older the berry, the sweeter the juice. Sadly, my OG is on its death bed. I plan on holding funeral services for it as soon the GN lands in my hands.
Anyways, I'm sure there will be some that have something to say and that's great! I just wanted to put some postiveness-ness-ness out there.
I don't like how Verizon is handling this, stringing us along with nothing to go on but rumors. Though when that day comes and it will, it will be awesome. I am still very excited for this device!

Edit: Mentioned Tiered Data Plans as a problem for small storage and lack of SD-Card slot.
