Importing contacts

I am getting a little annoyed with my Xoom at the moment. I cannot seem to import my contacts for the life of me.

I am trying to take my contacts off my HTC Aria phone and import them into my Xoom and it's not working. I got them off the Aria and onto my Mac, but then when I try to import a vcard from my Mac, to the Xoom every time it says it failed.

So then I tried to import those contacts into my Gmail account (which I never use and only have to in order to try and get these contacts into my Xoom). I successfully got them into Gmail, however they will not sync onto my Xoom and every time I try and export a file from Gmail onto the Xoom that fails as well. What in the world is happening?

When I login to gmail on my desktop I can see my contacts. When I use gmail on my tablet I can't see any contacts, neither can I see them on the xoom browser when I go to gmail.com. I don't think they are syncing for some reason.

Assuming you only have one Gmail account and you are correctly signed into it on your Xoom, this is indeed a strange predicament. I'd do a hard reset.

Can you expand a little more on what you are seeing?

The gmail Application on the Xoom does not have a Contacts section, there is a separate application to see and manage contacts on the Xoom. But when you compose an email and start typing a name in the To: field does it populate with names from your contact list?

If you open the Contact Application on the Xoom do you see any contacts listed there?

if you don't we can look at the sync settings on the Xoom.

Also, the Web UI for Gmail that you see by default from the Xoom also does not have a contacts section. The Web UI you see from a mobile device has been deliberately created to support a smaller screen and hence has less functionality. But again, in the web UI if you compose an email and begin filling in the To field it should use the contacts you have in your account.

My contacts app on the Xoom is displaying 2 contacts. Those 2 contacts were the original 2 contacts I had in gmail. Last night I imported nearly 200 contacts from my HTC Aria into the gmail contacts tab on my desktop browser. Those 200 contacts are not syncing onto my Xoom. I am still only seeing 2 contacts on my Xoom.

When I compose an email in either the email app or the gmail app, nothing happens. It does not find any contacts. I actually ONLY use gmail for the purpose of backing up my contacts. But it's not working for me.

I indeed only have 1 gmail account and it is logged in correctly. Where can I check the sync settings on the xoom?

Alright, I just figured it out. I went in and had to manually sync my contacts. When does the Xoom automatically sync contacts? Do I have to do this manually all the time?
