Impossible to do group message in hangouts to phone numbers?

I love hangouts. I have it setup to send messages through my google voice number which uses data and not my text messages. One thing I hate though is not being able to do group messages to phone numbers. If I select email addresses it will pop up the "anybody else?" icon, but it doesn't when using phone numbers.

Any help?

Welcome to Android Central!

It should bring up all the options when you type in the persons name. You should get a drop down that has all their contact info.

It's so weird. It doesn't. I can only do it with emails not numbers. It's so aggravating.

Yeah, Hangouts is hit or miss on some things. I stopped using it and moved back to Chomp SMS because Hangouts just didn't do what I wanted.
