"On December 4, 2011, Virgin Mobile USA announced the LG Optimus V, will be getting Android 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 Gingerbread in mid 2012"

saw that on another forum is it true?

it would help with ROMS

I saw that on wikipedia a few days ago but didn't give it any thought because we have the IHO roms

IHO could benifit from it AND now we know we can get updates so there shouldnt be an issue

At this point, I don't believe anything VM says regarding Gingerbread. I mean, we should have had it for months now based on what they said last year when 2.3 first came out...

LG pormised every optimus device (including the V) will get Ginerbread

2.2.2 has been out for over a year now. We just received the update a couple weeks back.

Just because LG says it doesnt mean VM HAS to actually give us a update. This model of phone is for VM and they have a agreement with LG regarding updates. If they (LG) break this agreement VM can pull the contract and cost LG money.

That being said the LG Optimus series of phones does have a gingerbread source. Just not every phone.

That rumor is FALSE.
Notice that it says citation needed? There is a reason.

LG announced that the Optimus line would be getting it. That statement has been on Wikipedia ever since.
Shortly after, an LG employee said only phones meeting a certain hardware requirement would get it, but that also turned out to be false. The employee said it, but what he said was wrong and LG corrected it. LG confirmed that the line would get it, but never said which models would and would not. The only time Virgin has ever said it would was on Facebook posts by lowly employees, these same employees also confirmed the Optimus Black. In other words, they know nothing more than we do.

By mid year, the OV will be a year and a half old, I find it rather hard to imagine that they will be working on giving use GB at that point, and do you want it? look how bad it was for the Optimus S, they had to redo it. If they do release it though, it means Virgin plans to keep selling this phone for probably another year or more. Virgin keeping the OV is a mixed blessing in my book. It's a great, durable little phone, but it's time has long since passed.

yeah , i disagree with that last part. the phone in my opinion has not seen its time yet. and i feel like VM will milk every cent it can.. why not? Its solid and better than that other old VM 8bit phone i had for a few years (tons of people still use them).

I dont need a mini tv in my pants. I dont need a small computer that can do everything my ov can cept faster . yet. for now the ov does what it does best, that is to be a dang good phone. were just lucky we can do so much to them .

I welcome new phones, . dont forget about the mighty v though :p

I was itching for a new phone for a while, but I decided to buy a kindle fire to satisfy my tech upgrade itch. I'm very happy. Both of my devices have good development. The kindle fire is really starting to grow. So I'm content with my little v for a while longer.

If it was a real release, it would be better than any of the IHO Roms.

Nope.... Why do you think we all have custom roms? Stock firmware is almost always bad because of all the bloat. Even before IHO we had froyo roms that are much better than the stock software.

I'd to like to hear more about why you think stock GB would be better than IHO. I can't think of anything off the top of my head, and like koopa said it's gonna have bloat.

i prefer the roms because they give my phone back to me,the owner. i can decide what i want or do not want on my device, not to mention the customization opens up all sorts of possibility that stock inherently doesn't. as a whole,id give vm 4 out of 5 stars for taking chances and offering devices many of their pre paid competition lags behind in offering. minus one star for lack of talk minutes in their base and mid range beyond talk plans.

Uhm, Froyo ROMs were all stock based. You're only proving my case. Not to mention that any Froyo ROM including stock can outperform IHO at the basic. Number two, I can see why you think we need nothing else other than IHO. Your greenness is showing. ;)

Better performance, better battery, less bugs, efficient kernel, everything basically working. A kernel compiled for GB, working libs. Amounted work by paid LG people, using official sources, modules, and libraries, as opposed to hacking things up to get it to work on the V.

Why do you think IHO is better than stock again?

In theory that works...
In reality, it doesn't always work that way. Case in point, the Froyo launch for the Intercept had serious issues, and as if that wasn't bad enough, Sprint had to redo the Optimus S Gingerbread update because it was so bad.

Yes, a release would be good because we would get native GB drivers instead of trying to make Froyo ones work or making our own. However, companies designate only X amount of man hours to a project, we have people constantly fiddling with things. Harmonia is technically a 2.1 rom, and even though we have 2.2, how much better Harmonia at 2.1 compared to stock 2.1 or 2.2?

A release would be good, especially if we got the source code, but not because a GB release would be great, but because it would help make IHO better.

I agree with LeslieAnn on this. It'd probably be better than the *current* IHO but then if IHO then based off original GB source from LG- then IHO would trump LG's

Um, my greenness? In your 55 posts all I have seen you do is hate on CM an other custom roms. And you said yourself you won't beat a stock remix for performance because our devs fix the problems LG left in the software and remove the bloat.

Do you really thing that the guys from LG that are payed to make a perfect firmware release? No. They have a deadline where they have to get it done by a certain date and they aren't supposed to get things "perfect", especially for a low-end, pre paid phone like the OV. (have you seen the triumphs stock software?)

Rom devs can work from the not perfect source code from LG and spend much more time making things "perfect" They can also remove the carrier bloat that the LG guys were forced to include. Really, I don't see how you think an official release will be better (see the Optimus S's first gingerbread release ), and the source that LG releases for a gingerbread release (If it even happens) will only improve IHO or other gingerbread roms that may pop up and it will be far better than stock.

I'm sorry to say but your greenness is showing.

Also, I guess when I quoted your post I accidentally hit thank you and Tapatalk won't let me unthank you in case you were wondering why...
