Impressions coming from a Nexus 6P to the Mate 9

awesome feedback about the default saturation setting! I didn't see that before!

I love this phone to death and cameras on phones are very important to me. So I have to admit that the lowlight performance in the Mate 9 is subpar compared to the 6P. I have decided to keep it because that is the only thing wrong with the phone other than the headphone jack in the top. I have other phones for low light so I'm not as concerned. The camera otherwise is great.

Tips that I have found to improve the camera. Because I am a Samsung and 6P user and like the more saturated photos that they take. I found that you can dial up the standard saturation in the Mate camera in the camera settings under image adjustment settings. Move the saturation from default to up to +1 and things get better. If you like more muted colors leave it alone.

Lastly, view your mate 9 photos on a super AMOLED display and you will also notice a difference in how they look. Not for lowlight though.

Try Night Mode on the Mate 9, it produces the brightest low light shots on any smartphone, beating the S7.

What are your thoughts on the camera? Have you taken any pics of moving objects? I'm really interested in this phone. I have a OP3T right now and the camera lets me down - it's far worse than my over year old 6s Plus - and the screen is just "meh". I'm looking at ditching the OP3T for this, since it really isn't that much more, but I'd like to see some more picture samples.

I'm also going from the 3t to the mate 9. If the camera is even slightly better, I'll be happy

It is! I just came from a 3t. Why are you changing?

There are many reasons. One of coarse camera, which again I'm hoping for slightly better. The screen size to body ratio is unmatched. I believe the screen quality will be the same if not better. The ir blaster is just so convenient in a pinch...i had one in my honor 8. I like some of the customizations from what I've seen.
The Oneplus is a great phone but It HAS had some quirks like the home screens having a little stutters, especially in shelf. The setting slide down stutters. I've had a bit of freezing and have had to reboot. I just think huawei is a more reputable company. Oneplus with 6gb ram and the top specs should have absolutely no issues. Unfortunately it still does.

I actually sold my OP3T yesterday. Still trying to decide on this phone. I have a Pixel (the small one) on order too. I've got it narrowed down to that, Honor 8 or Mate 9. I think the Mate would actually be my choice for now. I think it has the best combo of everything.

I've had both of those phones. The pixel I had twice and returned them for Bluetooth issues that never seem to get fixed. I think people are saying there is finally an update for it though. The honor 8 is a great phone and definitely the most cost effective. I really didn't have any issues with it but it was definitely not as smooth as the pixel or 3t. Oh, and the video camera is pretty horrible. I'd say it comes down to the size that suits you. Funny story but we are hosting 2 Chinese exchange students and one has the mate 8 which is bigger than the mate 9 and I find it still OK.

Well I need a good camera/video camera. We have a 14 year old, a 4 year old, and two month old twins. So I gotta save those memories. I've been using a 6s Plus for over a year. So the size wouldn't be a problem since they're basically the same size. I've just grown tired of Apple and keep looking at coming back to Android, which is basically all I used for about 5 years. But I need that all in one device that has all of the bases covered (quality, battery, camera, smoothness). And to be at a decent price doesn't hurt ($600 US isn't too bad for me, compared to the price of Pixels and iPhones).

Wow you got your hands full! I have three boys 15-14 and 8 so I know the feeling. My mate 9 should be here Tuesday and my criteria is about the same. We shall see. If I hold on to it more than 2 months my wife will be a happy camper. Lol hope to use it for a year if it works out!
