One of my cousins just quit Verizon without paying their bill, and their contract has a ways to go. She asked me if I wanted her Droid Incredible to use on my line. Do you think it will activate on my line with money owed on her account?

That is a good question and you might just have to give Verizon a call. I think they will be charging your cousin for the phone if its under contract like you said. So as long as Verizon gets there money you won't have any problems activating the phone. I'm sure they will be going after your cousin through a collection agency or some other way they just won't forget about it.

the ESN will be clear once the account is paid. till then im pretty sure its locked to that account.

Skynet is correct. When a customer leaves a carrier and doesn't pay the balance, the devices are "locked" into the account. The ESN will not be able to be activated unless the account is paid in full. As of now, the Incredible is basically just an expensive paperweight.

Your cousin will have to pay the contract cancellation fee ($250, I think) in order for you to be able to activate the phone.

I would say no to the above responses, just have your cousin activate your phone on her line, then activate her phone on your line. I

the problem will be getting it off her account not on yours, you can activate it to yours but since it is pass due you cant activate a different phone on her account to take the place of the Dinc(cant have 1 phone on 2 lines). BUT when her account goes into collections it will free the phone from the account due to the account not existing any longer. that usally takes about 4-6 months to happen depending on how good they were about paying the bill. hope that helps you.
