Individual notifications on Facebook messenger

Could anyone please tell me how to change individual notifications in Facebook messenger please? I muted my friends notifications which stopped us from messaging each other and now I'm desperately trying to un-mute to fix this problem

Did you mute or block? Either way, just go to Messenger, long press on your previous thread. There will be a popup with options for unmute or unblock.
