The FCC documents mention an inductive charging back cover. I think it's about time it is a standard feature. Any one have experience with this? I have used it with other devices (WII Controllers) but not a cell phone. Is it as fast as regular charging?

It can be just as fast. It depends on the restrictions of the cover and the charger itself, in much the same way the wattage of a usb charger greatly effects the charging speed. In other words, don't by cheap 3rd party crap and it'll work just fine.

I think it is the equivalent of charging over an usb on a computer. Not as fast as a wall charger. And yes I completely agree with it needing to be standard. When you have to buy a separate door that is not the same size as the standard door it completely turns me off since more often than not case manufacturers aren’t building cases for this. I always like having a TPU case on my phones so I would rather plug it in than use Qi without a case.

I've used it with my old Palm Pre+ and their Touchstone, but not with any of the Qi type chargers.

The Touchstone could charge the Pre *faster* than just plugging in the USB connection.

That's pretty interesting. My fiancee has had a Palm Pre+ for about 18 months now and I remember seeing that Touchstone charging ability on the packaging when she got it originally, but she never sprung for the mat that's needed to do that. I was always curious how it would work, but I know at the time the inductive charging was still fairly new for cell phones. Guess maybe we should have looked into that a little further and given it a try!

I think the inductive charging cover coming standard will probably start happening more and more, will be nice to see it on the Bionic if in fact it does have it!! Just another great "check mark" in what should be a long list of top of the line features!

Can't wait until my upgrade date in later August gets here!!! :D

It seem like a very good feature especially if battery life is a concern. Now we need bars and restaurants to integrate charging pads into tabletops......
I hear ya on the can't wait, I am driving my wife crazy.

I must say, it is a nice feature. That said, the Palm implementation is still ahead of what I see available for Android phones.

The touchstone is small (much smaller than the phone) as opposed to these big, ugly mats. Plus the magnets on the back of the Pre hold the phone firmly at an angle so you can still use the phone (I would routinely leave the phone on the touchstone at the office and listen to Pandora on the headphones. The touchstone holds the phone on the charger even with the odd yank of a headphone cord every once in a while.

It's the thing I miss the most from moving to Android.

I can't wait to custom install one of the charging pads in my car in a spot that I can just lay my phone on it when I climb in without screwing with wires all over the place...
