I've had my Asus Infinity 700 for three days.

What I like:

Display is excellent
Camera is really good, probably the best on any tablet as of right now
Build quality feels good
Battery life seems decent
WiFi works well
GPS works well

What I don't like:

Horrible user interface, not at all intuitive
Simple tasks made difficult because of the user interface (Maybe an Android issue rather than the tablet itself)
Not able to play AVI movies (ridiculous on a tablet at this price)
Managing files, shortcuts, etc. is very involved and again, not at all intuitive
Takes a long time to power up
Touch screen is slow or unresponsive, at times need to tap several times for an action, also "pinch-to-zoom" is also slow or non-responsive at times
(again very disappointing in a tablet at this price range)

Conclusion: I'm disappointed. I was really excited about buying this tablet, but I'm really surprised by the overall performance and user experience.

I can always take it back to where I bought it, but now I wonder what tablet out there (if any) just sort of works out of the box. I don't want to cave to Apple, although I did consider the new iPad, but chose the Infinity instead. I feel like I made a mistake. I still have a while to return it to the store if I want to, so I'll keep it and see if gets any better, but for now the excitement of this highly rated device has diminished.

Hey bill2reg, I'd give the user interface time. Once you get used to Android, it's really rewarding. It's much more flexible and powerful than iOS. And if the kids think managing files is tough in Android, and you will not like ios. Get ASTRO file browser and you'll be happy.

Don't know what to say about slowness. I think the infinity is awesome. It's almost a laptop replacement. If you just want to run apps apple is fine. I but give the infinity a fair shot. It's worth it.

Pete,
My smartphone is Android (Samsung Galaxy S) so I've been using Android for a couple of years. I got the tablet 3 days ago and have upgraded it to Jelly bean (4.1.1). The slowness to respond to the touch screen seems to have been noticed by others on this forum, so maybe it's about the upgrade. Anyway I can keep it up to 60 days and return for a full refund, so I'll give it time. I'll look into Astro. Thanks.

It's a pain in the ass, but a factory reset would likely smooth everything and get you running fast again. You'll have to reinstall apps, but I'd try it as a last resort. I did it once to my Nexus 7 and got a huge performance boost (I had installed an app that just seemed to gum everything up).
