Initiating Samsung Pay

thanks for reminding me. when I tried to get google pay they turned me down because they couldn't find my house. don't think I want them handling my cards so I didn't try again.

they just add the cards from the play store :-) I did not know if they cannot locate you, they will not let you use it.

they tried to send me a physical card and I don't know if my one-horse post office made the mistake or they tried to find me on Maps or what happened, but I was declined twice for the card itself which meant I couldn't use google pay. and the dumb thing is, they have my cards and I've been using google since almost forever, at least a decade. made no sense to me so I gave up.

physical card??? I know they had a physical card when it was google wallet but it has since been discontinue. Not even sure if the card is good these days. I cut mine up when I was unable to use it because the phone was not compatible with mobile payments through them. that's been years ago. you should be okay now.

Keep in mind that Samsung Pay is really meant for the Samsung Stock launcher. That's why some of you are having issues trying to use it with other launchers.

I didn't know you could get a physical card for Google Pay. Is there a annual or monthly fee for that? I wonder if Samsung has something like that.

I figured as much. it's been quite a few years. in the intervening time, I've reconsidered data privacy etc. and I'm better off without either one of them. if someone is going to have that much of my data, i.e. basically know everything I do and buy, they need to pay me first. then I'll use their pay options.

google has massive amounts of my data and I'm sure Samsung does too. that's where I draw the line. it's not hard to whip out my bank card and stick it in a machine.

no. it wasn't that kind of a card. it was the forerunner of google pay and when you signed up for it they apparently send you a hard card too. I never got one. it wasn't a credit card. just hard access to google wallet.

too late, they already know what you do and buy. found this out when I started using google rewards. even if I paid in cash at kfc, I get a survey question about my visit there almost immediately.

I know. that's why I quit using their browser and use duck duck go instead (hate the name). I cleared all my data from them that I could and I just use them for apps, calendar, and email now. still way too much, but the calendar and email are for convenience.

what you did really does not help, especially if you are still using their apps. google is everywhere :-) anyway, that will be the last I will say. starting to seemed like I hijacked a samsung pay thread.

especially if you have your phones location turned on

I keep that turned off too unless I need it for maps. I mean they know where I live already (or they tried to lol) but except for maps in an emergency my location stays off. after the FB Cambridge Analytica thing I tightened everything, everywhere down as tight as I could.

and I do understand everything you're saying, but I have drawn my line in the sand, fwiw

Mine also on the N9. What bugs me is swiping up for my apps but launching Samsung Pay instead. I hate that. I haven't even set it up yet on the 10+.
I don't use the swipe up for apps. I like to just click the app button. I hate it on the stock launcher. I only have an issue when I'm trying to swipe my navigation bar up and I get the Samsung pay .

The only time I open Samsung pay on my phone is when I want to access my membership cards stored in it. For making payments I just use Samsung pay on my watch.

Other than convenience is Samsung pay worth it anymore? I used to use the hell out of it when you could actually accumulate good rewards points. Then they changed the rewards structure, and started charging more points for redemption.

Convenience. You only get 3 points now per purchase at the highest tier. And they expire. Kind of useless really. Hardly get you anything. I remember top tier originally was like 40 points a purchase I think.
