Initiating Voice Actions and Voice Search

That suck man. Mine works near flawlessly. When you open the voice search hit the little wrench and check if youhave english as default. And check the personalized bix thing thats supposed to improve voice recognition.

Yes I had already done that also.

You could try installing the new beta.skype.com keyboard, which bundles in Dragon voice recognition.
Maybe you will have better luck with that one.

Then use Skype to make a test call to verify your microphone is working. (Check it's not blocked with dirt).

I would like to know if there is an alternative widget/button to access the new voice search and dictation feature other than that tiny magnifying glass at the top of each home screen. Is there?

Yes. Someone built a button specifically for G Nexus and it works great. Search the market for "Google Voice Search Button-GN" by GiantTurtle. Also, here's a list of the voice commands available: LINK. It all works great for me EXCEPT CALLING A CONTACT - which of course is the one I'd like to use the most. :) The "Listen to" finds music way faster than scrolling through your music for it. And the "Note to self" sends an email to your GMail account - I love it. After you see the text, just press "Send". You don't have to open up the To, Subject, etc. fields.

Sigh, Did you even try the Vlingo apk I posted? It would solve every problem you have, including being able to be woken up by voice, instead of fumbling for a button to press.

i will also try that. thanks:)

OK, here is what I did, and it worked fine for me. Somewhere I heard that if you find, download and install the following apk:

VoiceSearch_1.5.apk

This will install and work on the Nexus the way the old app did, as as separate app from the Google search bar. And it worked fine for me.

You can do a search for that exact apk and you should be able to find a place hosting it for download, I just use Chrome to Phone (or Fox to Phone) to right-click and send it straight to my phone, then I just click on it to install it.

Here is the screenshot of it sitting on one of my home screens (I took it off of my bottom bar because I needed that space for stuff I actually used more). At first it had the square icon, like the old one, but then when it updated, I got this nice new round icon:

Thank you! I grabbed the app of XDA and then updated it from the market. I now have a Voice Search icon in my app drawer on my Galaxy Nexus. I linked it to Go Launcher's "Down Swipe" gesture setting in preferences.
