Insane 3G Speed

Just cruising the threads. I have AT&T and am looking at getting the thunderbolt. The thread title lured me in but I can pick up over 2mbps on my jailbroken iPhone all the time. That's with a solid 2 bars. I really am not fond if AT&T service but I guess they do have the fastest 3g on the market?

You are also paying more for AT&T data,remember where talking Virgin Mobile,who route the data from their own centers and back out through sprint.

I call bull****.
When I tested today It was using the server in Springfield MO, which is roughly 45 miles from me.
If the OP is really getting those kind of results then more power to him. I jut dont believe its correct seeing as how its saying he is 50 miles from the server. When in reality he is half way across the country from Wichita. Tethering my laptop to my phone I get a faster result then I get from the phone. Connecting to a static server each time. So these speed tests cant be 100% every time. Hell I get a crazy result connecting the itouch via wifi to my phone so I dont trust any results.

That's what happens when Speedtest bases his location on his IP address instead of his actual location. Which is why Wichita, KS was picked as the test site in the first place (if Speedtest correctly used GPS, it would've picked a test site in FL instead...in which he would've seen lower pings).

With the previous version of Speedtest, it was 50/50 whether Speedtest got my location right (with GPS) or whether it used the IP address to determine location - in which it would then place me near Wichita, KS.

I've gotten faster speeds, so I don't see how his results are out of line at all.

I agree, AT&T is raping me. I pay 130 a month for the unlimited package. The same I would pay for the 4g package.

Btw, I totally apologize. I thought the test was from verizon.

With the Speedtest app I am getting 2.99 download and 1.22 upload. It is using a server that is about 63 miles from me.

You can't come to the conclusion that his speed test results are flawed just because they selected a test site based on his IP address instead of his GPS location. If anything, it just makes his connection look worse than it should. The effects you'd see are higher ping time (and his ping time does reflect that he's not actually 50 miles from the server) and probably lower speeds than if he had tested to a site near him. His speeds are not out of line, and are lower than what others (including myself) have gotten.

That is not true totally. I get a 300 plus ping and the server is 45 miles from me.
That is part of why I dont buy into this.
Simply put each time Ive used the app I get some crappy result on my phone but if I tether I get a decent result.

everything has a margin of error. may not be the exact speed but its a pretty good estimation of the speed at the time the test was taken.

for all we know its off by 0.2Mb/s, its still good speed.

I am not disputing it being a good speed. Just the validity of the results. If I was getting that via my phone I would be happy. But as I stated above two totally different results using the same server less than 10 minutes apart raises a red flag for me.

Speedtest app just gave me a result of over 9000 MB/s download 0.10 MB/s upload and a ping of 217 ms from a GPS located server > 50 miles away. This was on wifi.

Even if its not on 3G Its Clearly a false result. The new test app also seems to lag a lot so I question whether the results are true.

I think this happened while the phone was switching radios. It must be a bug or something.
