Ok so I was out and about and I noticed my internet was freaking fast. Decided to do a speed test and got almost 8 mbps down and 1.5 up. Idk how but it was so cool. And it wasnt 4g because I dont live in a 4g area. If someone can instruct me on how to post pictures I will gladly put them

Were you in one small area this was happening? Did it go back to normal a block or so away from that location? I notice the same thing when I'm at home in range of my airave. Even though it's technically putting out only 1X, I get speeds equal to that of my home internet connection. (5mpbs down, 256k up). I wonder if you were linked to someones Airave at that location...

That's a great result. I've gotten as high as 6 down while traveling, but no 4g where I live or work---wah. My buddy set his Verizon 4g LTE phone up as a hotspot, I connected my Epic, did a speed test, and got 14 Mbps down! I was floored. If no WIMAX here in a year + when my contract expires, I'll be checking out big red.

It is impossible to get speeds like that out of Sprint's 3G technology, EVDO Rev. A. It's maximum speed technically possible is 3MB. And no one really even gets that. Maximum real world conditions on the Sprint network are more like 1.5MB.

You either were connected to Wi-Fi, Airave or 4G and blissfully unaware. It could not be Sprint's 3G. Also, speedtest using Non-flash based tests are not reliable. On my Verizon BB I use for work, the speed tester I use will sometimes say I have 8MB to 20 MB. On a 3G Blackberry not on WiFi! Not possible. Use Speedtest.net or their app. Everything else is iffy.

I live in a non-4g area (new orleans) but my 4g works. Perhaps its still in the testing phase.

New Orleans has one tower and Kenner has another. Look on Clear.com coverage maps. Those two towers are for spectrum protection to satisfy the license requirements.

Naw I used the speedtest app from the market. I was out in the country side where there is only 3g when it happened. No houses in sight. I was at a farm site with a friend that lives out there. No wifi or anything

Nope it stayed for like a mile until I started roaming

I have pictures I will post now, or atleast try

That's really interesting. It's just impossible for it to run off EVDO-A at those speeds. Physics say no. I don't know what actually happened. All I know is that it can't be running EVDO-A at those speeds.

The only way it could happen is if it was running dual-carrier. T-Mobile started deploying dual-carrier for it's HSPA+42. But this can't be the case here because...

1. Sprint doesn't run dual-carrier for EVDO
2. Your device doesn't have a dual-carrier chip, even if they did.

I'm stumped!

Impossible for EVDO RevA...plain and simple. Someone is messing with you posting 4G speeds or either his speedtest app is really messed up.

No I swear I'm not lying, I really have no reason to lie. It was on EVDO A and I even showed it. But if you don't want to believe it that's fine I just wanted to share because it kinda blew my mind

Ok...then your speedtest app is messed up. Saying you got those speeds on Evdo RevA is like saying you can pull 100 megabits on a 802.11g network. Or pulling 2 megabits down on an ATT 2G EDGE data connection...Its just not going to happen. The air interface just doesn't allow it.

It's not an issue of lying. I would never be so brazen as to accuse you of that. It's just that it is not possible, so there must be a glitch somewhere. That's all. I'm glad you reported it. One of us may encounter this error sometime too. May help shed the light on the issue one day.
