Instagram gallery out of order

When I go to the gallery to view photos on my phone, they're in order of most recently taken.

However when I open Instagram, my gallery is showing all of my photos I've previously posted to Instagram. In order to most recently posted.

How do I change this, so that when I open Instagram to post a new story or post, it pulls up my most recently taken photos rather than photos I've already posted?

When you try to make a new post, there should be a drop down menu on the left-middle side (below the picture preview). There, I'm assuming, yours is set to 'Instagram'; just change it to 'Gallery' and you should be good! Mine never changes from that, so not sure how you set the 'default' but my guess is that whatever source you uploaded from last, would be the one that 'sticks'.

You can also view photos in your gallery and share them from there selecting Instagram, it's what I've always done since most apps do a horrible job organizing photos when I share from within them.

It's on gallery and I've tried to switch through the different options and then go back to "gallery" as the main option but the photos are still showing as previously posted Instagram pictures.

So far that's what I've been doing but it doesn't allow me to choose multiple photos for one post. *whines in third world problems*

Are you saving your Instagram posts to your phone? If so, that may be why it's showing up (since you selected Gallery, ALL saved media would show up). You also have the option to select individual folders, so you could try selecting just the Camera one.

Nope, the toggles for save photos/videos and photos taken with the Instagram camera are off.
The drop down menu gives me "gallery, photos, videos, Instagram and other"... when I click "other" it just takes me to a every photo in my phone, where I can choose a single photo. All of the other options show the same exact layout of previously posted pictures.

Prior to Friday, this wasn't an issue. I don't know what changed and I don't believe I had any system or app updates.

Since at least a couple of us aren't having issues, I'd suggest uninstalling the app and re-installing it. I'm on version 255.0.0.0.39 (if that helps).

Did that, now getting an error message when I'm trying to reset my password on both the app and web.
On a whim, I decided to read reviews and I've found quite a few people were having the same issue with not being able to find recently taken photos.

hello, Im new to this forumn, Im also having trouble with my instagram gallery, I had a s21+ and then I upgrade to a s23 ultra, which the camera is amazing but I got it on May 17, and my instagram gallery is screwed up and the pictures that were taken 2 years ago, the date is now May 17 on all of the past pictures, I cant send pics through chat to the person, is there anyway I can update it and get those dates back?

Welcome to Android Central! The problem is that if you copy a photo from one location or device to another, the newly copied photo has a creation date of the date it was copied, not when it was originally taken. The EXIF data should still include the original date the photo was taken, but file-pickers almost always look at the date that particular file was created or modified. You can experiment with 3rd party gallery apps to see if you can find one that can sort by "Date Taken", but I'm not sure if that gallery app will interface properly with Instagram.
