Using High on Android tutorials, I rooted, backed up stock rom with CWM and apps with TB. This evening, I downloaded the custom rom zip file to the external sd card, Using CWM, I did a wipe data/factory reset and proceeded to install rom zip file.
After a few seconds, I got the status 7 error. One of High on Android's tutorials suggest deleting some entries from updater.script file in the custom rom, Another location talks about a certain app to correct the issue.
I tried to restore the stock rom using CWM but can't find it on internal and external storage. I no it's somewhere because I renamed it with the current date.
Do I have any options or is this thing bricked?

Welcome to the forums!

You still have options, including reloading whichever firmware you were originally running using Odin.

I gave up on using CWM after having too many problems with it; I use TWRP instead. Once you get it running again you may want to see if there's a tutorial on loading TWRP or some other recovery software.

CWM should be able to find the Nandroid that you made.

What firmware were you trying to load that was failing? Can you provide a link?

Which model/carrier/firmware did you start with?

You could use Odin to load http://samsung-updates.com/details/26864/Galaxy_S_III_LTE_AT&T/SGH-I747/ATT/I747UCDLK3.html (that's 4.1.1 - it's strange, there isn't any newer firmware posted on the two main Samsung sites) and do an incremental update to 4.1.2.

Be sure NOT to take any update to 4.3 or later or you'll be stuck with the Knox bootloader and all of your fun with alternate ROMs will be gone.

As to why that firmware is giving you problems? I haven't read through their thread lately but I used Carbon last year without any issues. Once you get your phone re-rooted I'd suggest loading TWRP, which you can do easily if you install GooManager: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&token=uTNMfOfU (it appears that app is no longer being maintained for ROM updates but it should work for installing TWRP).

Edit: BTW, you should stay away from nightly builds, and look for the last stable release from Carbon.

I got lucky tonight. Yesterday CWM couldn't open the restore file but today it did. By chance, I removed and re-installed the sim card and battery. Maybe that action did something. All I know is good bye CWM and welcome TWRP.

Thanks again.
