is your bootloader unlocked?
you could boot into the bootloader and send it through fastboot commands.

place adb, fastboot, clockworkmod recovery image in the same folder
inside terminal or command prompt window
Code:
cd FOLDER/
fastboot flash flash_recovery recovery.img

Have you tried booting up into recovery or does the recovery manager just give you an error when trying to flash the newest recovery? If that is the case, I would not be surprised if the recovery is actually flashed and the manager app is just being stupid. I have had this happen to me many times. Try to boot into recovery and see what happens... DON'T boot up through the recovery manager boot up through bootloader.

Power you phone off, hold vol down/up then power to get to bootloader, scroll up using vol key and select recovery and hit power to select. If you get to a recovery, your good to go, if you get and android guy with a red triangle it didn't work for sure. Pull battery to get out of it and boot back up and let us know.
