When I run rom manager, under "flash clockworkmod recovery" it says "you must have the clockworkmod recovery installed to flash and restore roms!"
Where can I get the recovery for my optimus v?

Go to the Rooting, ROMs and Hacks section of the forum, and find the IHO thread. Find the wiki in the first post, and all the info you need will be located there. Here is a direct link: https://github.com/inferiorhumanorgans/android_device_lge_thunderc/wiki

Also, try your hardest to stay away from ROM Manager. Nothing in there really works out for the V.

do not use rom manager. the files it has for the OV are broken. you will end up frustrated and angry.

kcls has very good advice. I suggest you follow it.

I followed the link to the iho recovery site. I entered in the lines to the terminal emulator but
when i entered the line below
flash_image recovery iho-vm670-recovery-4.0.1.4.3.img
the emulator responded with
flash_image not found
what am I doing wrong?

There is an app on the market called flash Image gui that can flash the recovery for you if your adb illiterate like me :-P

Flash image gui is great. I flashed IHO recovery very easily. I then backuped my rom using it. I'm all set to flash a new rom
What's the best rom for our phone?

There is no best, but there are great choices:

Froyo- Harmonia 1.* or Bumblebee are two of the best (only Harmonia is supported by its dev now)

Gingerbread- BACKside, BobZhome, Harmonia2, mrg666 (all supported by active devs)

It only takes 10-15 minutes to flash and test a ROM, so MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR CURRENT PHONE, then try each one for a day and see which you like best. ;)

When I flash a new ROM do I have to reinstall the android market as well??

I used rommanger on my OV (bought back in march old screen i assume). I only used it to flash the recovery bit. I dont use the actual app for flashing roms I always boot into recover and backup and flash from there.

Should i flash the IHO recovery for future use?

If the current one is working not really any need to. I have an old screen ov and can use cwm also. I flashed the IHO recovery just for sake of using it with my IHO rom.

Yes unless your flashing the new Harmonia 2 build, it comes with basic gapps. All the other IHO builds need to have gapps flashed after the rom
