right now i am running a custom rom. i want to install a custom kernel but would it interfere with the rom or can i just install it. and would i need to wipe my phone?

Any of the solid kernels, like Hydra or King will work with your ROM. You just need to try them out and see which one works best. Hydra over clock kernels make my phone run super fast, but at times it gets unstable and really drain the battery. King kernels seem to run a little smoother. But that's my phone and my ROM. As far as the wipe, some people say "yes" others say "no", I don't anymore. Do what the ROM Dev. tells you, Hydra doesn't say you have to wipe, but I think King does. I never saw any difference, just make sure you have a currant backup you can go back to if something goes wrong.

It's all going to depend on what ROM you are running. If you are running a stock sense rom you can use the normal sense kernels. If you are running an AOSP rom such as CyanogenMod then you will need an AOSP kernel.

When flashing, you will not need to wipe your phone. It is recommended to always to a backup of some sort.

Here is a guide on how to flash kernels. http://forum.androidcentral.com/450237-post12.html

Yeap, you will be using the normal sense kernels.

You will be able to use Hydra...King kernels... and chad kernel to name a few.

Currently I run Virtuous with the Chad kernel. I was using virtuous' adrynaline kernel. I'll give it a week but seems that the Chad kernel IS giving me a little better battery life. So how to....

FIRST BACKUP UP YOUR CURRENT ROM. Just like a custom rom, you want to put the zip file on the root of your sd card. You can download on the phone, use astro to move it to the sdcard and use rom manager, but I have had issues so now I use my computer ALWAYS.

Put the zip file on your sd card. I reboot into recovery from rom manager. Select install zip from sd card. Then select the file. You will have to scroll down to yes.

When changing kernels I DO NOT WIPE. I haven't used one that I read anywhere required a wipe. However, after the install, but before I reboot the phone, under the advanced category, I wipe dalvik cache. I don't exactly know what this does, but I've read to do it, and I always do. Now you can reboot the phone.

Be aware that anytime you change something (rom, kernel, etc) the phone WILL take longer than usual to reboot, so don't panick. Just be patient.

You need to download the kernel, put it in the root of your SD card and then follow the instructions I posted for you in the third post

I know how to put it on. My question wad can I change the Rom doing the same thing or would I have to delete the old one or do another step
