I have a Galaxy S3 SGH-i747 that has the broken/stuck power button. It's on 4.1.x at the moment, the OS that originally came with it. It will eventually, after some finesse, boot up into a useable phone state, as long as the power button is avoided. I wanted to update to some variant of 4.4.x or even 5.x in the future, and wanted to ask if I can do this without touching the power button. I am able to install root. Everything I've read seems to involve going into the recovery menu which eventually requires having to press the power button. Thanks.

use rom manager to flash CWM Touch/TWRP Note: cwm is better! and boot into recovery using rom manager and sucess!

You can download the Commandr for Google Now app. It adds a bunch of voice commands to Google Now. You can also use it to reboot, reboot into recovery, and turn off your phone through Google Now...Although, you probably don't want to use it to turn off your phone if your power button is stuck.
