Just download my first kernel TNP1-1344-384JB-Stable35. What is the best method for installing? Currently using CWM. On CM10-20120729 Skank.

Kernel on sdcard.
Reboot into recovery.
Wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache.
Flash it.
Reboot.
At unlock screen wait 1 minute before touching anything... always let a new kernel settle just a bit for you rush it, keep that in mind when you flash new ROMs too :)

Thanks 2def. You seem to be my IT guy.....hell I just need to give you my phone!

when flashing kernel, I haven't had the need to wipe cache or dalvik's cache.

It is good practice. Rather have people get used to taking an extra step that won't hurt anything than miss a step that will cause issues. No, with most kernels you don't need to wipe anything, but some that include their own init.d scripts and ramdisks need a cache/dalvik wipe. You lose nothing by doing it so its better to just do it.

I'm assuming that Kernels will stay the same while you flash different Roms, right? You need to flash another Kernel in order to change it, right?

Same with Bootloader, right?

No, every ROM includes its own kernel, so you'll need to flash your preferred one after, if you choose.

Bootloader and radios will not get touched tho.

Bootloader will stay the same while flashing roms, but the kernel will change to the one included in the rom. You would need to reflash a kernel if you don't want the stock kernel that comes with the rom.

Oh great.. that means.. that restoring nandroid restores that particular kernel..

That means.. more backup versions.. my drop box is already full..

I already get confused now when.. I make two backups on the same day..

Which file is which.. to restore... bla...

As you get more comfortable you shouldn't need so many.. I literally only keep my 1-2 most recent backups stored. The rest I delete as I go, never going back to them lol :)

So which kernel is included in the latest JB nightlies for AOKP? Is it worth keeping?

Idk.. They usually go with faux's kernels but I think they may just be including the stock kernel for now. If you're running it just go to About Phone and you can see kernel version.

As to if it's worth keeping.. That's up to you, lol, if you like it keep it, if you want to experiment then flash something else :)
