I don't actually own the Tab S3 but I was thinking about picking one up. If I did, I will replace the launcher, but does the tablet need to be rooted before you can install and use a new launcher? Or do you only have to install the new launcher and select it as the default?

Thanks

Nope, launchers are 3rd party apps and are available through the Play Store without needing to root. Just install, select as default (or to ask every time if that's your thing) and done!

For deeper actions into the system, you do need root.

You can uninstall some, and disable some. Since the latest update it has been terribly slow.

Actually I reset the tablet. It does work a lot faster, but there's been a lot of errors, Android system errors.

Have you tried with other, more well-known launchers like Nova? Is the tablet in Easy Mode?

I use Nova Launcher on mine. You have to go into the settings of Nova Launcher and change it as the default.
