Hello,

As stated in the thread title I have developed a rapid battery drain.

In the screenshots you can see the remaining battery nosedive.

I have performed a reset, updated and done the usual of disabling apps and GPS.

I also have only really used the samsung charger and the phone is less then a year old.

I'm now running in safe mode waiting for the same thing to occur again.

Anyone experienced this?

Does it always happen at the same battery level? If so, it might be a faulty battery. Let us know if Safe Mode helps (just to see if it's an app that's going haywire).

After placing the phone in safe mode it occurred again.

I visited a samsung help centre and they run through some tests. They found nothing other then the screen shots I had taken where not good signs.

I had a screen replacement through my insurance about 3 months ago so they have recommend returning to them(They are samsung approved) as they could of instigated a fault.

They also indicated it could be mother board related. Reading between the lines they have seen this before.

I will post a reply once it repaired just in case someone has this problem on the future.

Usually a nose dive like that is indicative of a bad battery, which basically has an internal short. I kind of doubt the screen replacement had anything to do with it. I'd try getting it replaced if you can.

That short is called a dendrite (Lithium Battery Dendrite links if you're interested). They're working on it, two methods to eliminate the problem have finally been figured out - we don't yet know if either one is practical - but for now, if the battery throws a dendrite, all you can do is live with it if it's at a low enough level (yours looks to be about 40%, so if you charge at 40% all the time, it wouldn't matter too much) or replace thew battery.
