Instant Email Notifications from AC don't work?

Hi,

Is there something I am missing? I have my user CP set up to automatically default to "Instant Email Notifications" on all my subscribed threads. I have checked my gmail spam folder, I have checked that I am subscribed to threads. However, I rarely get email notifications. I don't think I ever get email notifications on threads I start, and I bet I only get notifications on about 25% of the threads I reply to.

And it isn't that the notifications are late getting to me, or that I am getting confused and forget that I have gotten a notification. I just flat out don't get them. I was beginning to think that nobody was helping me until I came back on here, checked my posts, and saw I had tons of replies.

Is there something I am doing wrong? This isn't my first message board. I think I have everything setup correctly, but maybe not.
