Instructions / manual for GPS navigator?

Are there instructions, a manual, or a how-to for the phone's GPS navigator? I mean the thing that gives you driving directions, like a GPS navigator you buy for your car. I don't mean how to turn the GPS receiver on and off.

BTW I do not have a Nexus 4 yet but will probably get one soon. I can tell you that the navigator on my older Android phone has virtually no Help but does have bewilidering and unpredictable functions where the same tap does different things depending on where you are physically located; inexplicable icons; deeply hidden functions that you can only access only by tapping in some specific, totally unmarked spot on the screen... the list goes on and on. Total nightmare quagmire. I usually end up printing driving directions on paper before leaving the house, that's how bad it is.

Also there's no way to do a Google search for what I'm asking, because Google thinks you're asking about 'navigating' through the phone functions in general. Including words such as 'driving directions' doesn't help.

How about some clarification?

What version of OS on your current phone?

Are you referring to Google Navigation? It is just labeled "Navigation" and has a blue arrowhead icon like this:

You can access a Help website from within the App itself...

Tap the menu (three vertical square dots in the upper right corner) > tap Help and a help page opens in your phone's browser.

BTW, Google Navigation is still in Beta...

Of course, you can also install myriad third party nav apps from google play, both paid and free. I use navfree usa. These apps allow offline nav (no data connection required).

I prefer TomTom but the built in Navigation app has some pretty nice features that TomTom doesn't such as displaying a picture of the location that you have arrived at so you know you are at the right place... at least it does on my Nexus 7, not sure on the N4 yet.

Are you referring to the Android TomTom app? Ouch, that thing is $45. I've used a number of navigation devices (my trucks on board, portable Magellan, different phones), and they all have slightly different screens that perform the same end function. I actually prefer Google's Navigation over them all, but could get used to anything if I had to change.

To the OP...just play with it while somebody else is driving. Along with the Google link and help files other members left you, it's pretty easy to figure out.

Yes, TomTom for Android. I use it on my N7. I bought it for $27 a few weeks ago in the play store. I would have never paid full price.

What do like about it better than Google Navigation? I'm wondering if I might want it too.
