Insufficient Storage available, but have 600 Mbs free.

I have been running into "insufficient Storage available" recently with my Nexus 4 when installing apps. I have tried to clear out the waste by deleting the cache and apps I don't need any more and I have around 600 Mbs free on my phone, but I still keep getting the message. Is there a specified portion of the phone that is available only for apps? or do I need to have a certain percentage of my phone free to have it run?

Other than putting some of my songs on storage, which I don't want to do, I don't see any alternative.

Anyone have this issue, of having 500Mbs+ of storage and getting the insufficient storage available message?

It's like on GB I think once you got to 20MB it wouldn't let you install further.
You have the 8 or 16GB version?

Have you tried clearing some of the App Data? Personally I notice YouTube can get get over 1GB from the "Preloading" setting.
I install no games on my device though but have over 150 Apps & a few thousand pics with still over 4GB left.
If you have games installed...maybe try installing them on a tablet keeping your phone for everything G else other than games, that's what I do.
Or try cloud storage for your media.

I believe I read somewhere that the phone needs at least 500mb of free space to actually work.

you need certain % of memory to keep the phone running.

go to settings-->storage and see whats taking up memory and clear it up

Try clearing all of your app cache, there are several apps in the market that can do this.

Do some phone cleaning. Ditch apps you aren't using. Clear cache, transfer pics to a pc and back those up. Delete some sms.
