Insurance on the Thunderbolt?

Just checked out their general policy which covers mp3 players. They do not cover spills or water damages. "Accidental damage: Unless Accidental Damage from Handling Protection is purchased, we don?t cover items that are accidentally damaged - such as water damage, dropped iPods, and cracked laptop screens."

It seems that with smartphones, they DO cover accidents and water damage. "All Care Plans for new cell phones include Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) coverage, which protects them against drops, spills, and other accidents. There is a $50 deductible for any accidental damage claim."

So maybe that is the confusion? Did they think you had separate ADH coverage as well as general coverage? Looks like ADH is not built in to the coverage for ipod's etc, like is with smartphones.

With Verizon / Asurion, they send you a "like new" phone which from what I can gather, knowing people personally who have received one and 95% of people on the various forums who have received one, is pretty much a toss up and is more hassle than it's worth in terms of getting a phone that works or isn't prone to issues.

still, after having to argue with their manager that my iPod was delivered--and actually had sat on their dock for nearly 2 business days without being acknowledged for service, i'm still skeptical of using this company for a $750 phone.

Yea, I'm right there with you. Only thing I can think of is that it sat there waiting to be processed. Seems to me like no matter who you go through with insurance, you're going to get less than stellar results most of the time. :-\

Also if yo use squaretrade for your Thunderbolt you might want to email them first. When you select Android phone it says this " Smartphones Break! SquareTrade covers you up to the $600 replacement cost of your Android phone." Since the Thunderbolt is $749 to replace this might be an issue.

I am confused. When you guys are talking about replacement phones do you mean they give you refurbished smartphone? Also is that replacement phone exactly same phone you have? I am talking about Verizon insurance policy and procedures. Do they ever give you a new phone?

I've used VZW's Asurion insurance for years and never felt slighted in the phone I got back. Every time I took it into Verizon they almost immediately replaced mine due to manufactures defect and had one shipped out in 2 days. When I had to pay the dectuctable, it was only 50. That was for my Motorola E815, BB Pearl and Moto Droid as of recent. And never did I feel I was getting a used phone. And I am very picky about scratches and visible wear. Asurion is great, but I guess they raised their deductible. And if I havent gotten new phones in the past, they're great at refurbing

I have to agree I've gotten Asurion with every phone I have had and they have never given me a problem. I've never even had to pay the deductible. As for Square Trade, I also have an insurance with them for a netbook. Since I haven't had any issues, I can't really comment on them.
