Insurance Phone Coming

My fiance is getting another Nexus sent to her on Tuesday. After a number of other problems with the old one, I think this one will be rooted ASAP. Problem is, I have a Nokia 920 and never had any droid phone so this is all new to me. Anyone have any opinions on the best/easiest guide for beginners and also the best custom ROM to use?

Unless you have a need to run a specific app that requires root there really is no reason to root. The stock ROM (4.3 now) runs just fine as well.
