Hey all,
This is the first phone I'm considering insurance since I tend to beat up my phones and with two sides of glass, luck will not be on my side. That said, does anyone know of any insurance for the s6 edge that gives you a brand new device if there is an issue? It seems most give a refurbished replacement phone, which I'm not a fan of. On top of that I've had durability issues with refurbs in the past.

I think square trade and some others just cut you a check.

I pulled the following off of SquareTrade:
We'll overnight you a replacement when possible (may not be available for leased or financed devices). Or, we'll pay to have your device overnighted to us, fix it the day it arrives, and then overnight it back to you.

If I financed the device through AT&T will it still cover it?

Square Trade will give you refurbs. They will not give you a new device or cut you a check. That being said, I've never processed a claim through them on a phone that is so new that there aren't any refurbished products available. Not sure what they would do in that case. Also, I'm not sure what they would do if you had a device so old and/or rare, then they may cut you a check. But assuming you are talking about getting this for the S6 and you don't file a claim for at least 4+ months from now, you will be getting a refurbished phone. Not really sure why that matters though. If it doesn't work like a new phone then you tell them and they send you a new one.

As far as the "may not be available for leased or financed devices", I'm not sure how they would know unless they changed their way of doing things recently. I can understand leasing could be an issue since when you go to turn in your phone, it's a different phone. Then the carrier would be having the issue, not Square Trade. As far as financing, as long as you plan on paying the phone off fully at some point, I don't see why Square Trade and or the carrier would know/care as long as everybody is getting paid.

Just having made an insurance claim on my brand new S6 Edge, I can tell you that Asurion for AT&T doesn't have the phones to send me so they told me to go buy one off-contract and they will send me a check, minus deductible. So this go round, at least, I know that it will be brand new and not refurbished. And I am so very glad I bought the insurance I can't even tell you. Didn't anticipate a screen crack on day 1!

With SquareTrade you have to provide proof of purchase when you purchase the coverage (usually within 30 days) so that's probably how they will determine if it's financed/leased.

Okay, spill the beans! And what is the deductible with Asurion?

Makes sense. But then it comes down to why does SquareTrade care? Especially about the financing part? The leasing makes sense.

I emailed their customer service to find out and I will post the results when I hear back.

The general reality is after a fair amount of time, you're getting a refurbished unit and that's that. Refurbs aren't necessarily bad because they are likely new in terms of some of the cosmetic parts and they have fixed what was originally wrong with them.

It's not like you're given a greasy scratched up phone that they just reflashed.

I have used Asurion two times now and they always send refurbished...unless they are not available....then you may get a new one or a "comparable" device. You should be able to decide on what comparable means and negotiate with them. Both of the refurbs I received looked and functioned like brand new phones. No issues at all with Asurion.
