Interesting article in battery life.

I call BS. How is that even possible? Lithium batteries typically have roughly 300-500 recharge cycles at 100% capacity before they degrade.

If you charge your phone everyday for 2 years, you would definitely exceed that amount.

How does Samsung claim this? What's difference about the batteries they use?
That's old battery tech, accurate as of maybe 5 years ago. As of 2016, lithium ion battery tech exists that allows 60,000 cycles before it degrades to 70% capacity. Samsung's claims are much less than that.

My only concern with Koh's statements is that he was the same person promoting how great Bixby was going to be with the launch of the s8. I even remember before the s6 launched how samsung was promoting how great touchwiz was going to be optimized and how even though the s6 had a sealed battery that was smaller than the s5 it would still last long because of software optimization. My sister in law had an s6 back then and after about 6 to 8 months she had to charge her phone twice a day or it would be dead by the end of her work day. Therefore, I'm really concerned that Samsung decreased the size of the battery for the note 8. The note 8 has a larger screen and more ram which will require more juice to run, not to mention the spen software and other new hardware options which could also tax the battery more than with the s8 plus. It really should have received a larger battery even if it made the phone somewhat wider or thicker.
I think the s8 plus is really a better buy unless you just have to have the spen. I also find it really interesting that you can no longer buy a s8 plus from target's website, att's website, Samsung's direct website, and a few other websites. Is Samsung worried that the s8 plus will hurt preorder sales of the note 8 because they're too close to each other?

Don't know about any conspiracies. I was in a Verizon store today they had the Note 8 right next to the S8+. You could buy the S8+ today or preorder the Note 8. I was able to easily compare each phone side by side and holding them in both hands. I was considering both, but after trying out both I liked the Note 8. The phone is taller, but more important to me wider. I wish it was even wider, but I found the Note 8 much easier to hold. Someone who has smaller hands will probably find the opposite - but I have big hands.

Also, you can still buy the S8+ over $10 cheaper than the Note 8 at BestBuy.

The battery is obviously going to be slightly worse than the S8+. What will be interesting is how it compares to the smaller S8. 3200 with a 6.3" screen vs 3000 with a 5.8"

I have never used a note but just cannot see me wanting to use the S-pen. I am obviously wrong as many love the s-pen but for me a stylus just feels a little 2010. I guess the S8+ has made the note range tricky for Samsung as the pen is really the only key differentiator now. For me though the deciding factors between the 2 are slightly better battery (and cheaper price) on S8+ vs dual lens camera on N8

After selling my kidney for the Note 8, 95% over 2 years sounds good. I don't plan on buying another phone for a while.

Seriously - imho.............

I feel battery life is way too much of a concern................and I know this observation and what follows may be sensitive to many smartphone utilizers, and even I am a "power user" (and I have big manly hands) but if.........

.... if someone told me 20 years ago..... "Hey, you can have this gorgeous sleek slab of glass and metal, and it will fit in your pocket and be light in weight and can be used anywhere, even in the shower, and you can use it essentially as a computer, search the internet, utilize all manner of social media, write and take notes, use it as a printer and word processor, use it as a music library and power speakers and a desk monitor with it, and it will come with a dual lenses camera that can take amazingly crazy good pictures, which you can then edit, and you can even use it as a phone, and it will even have fast charging, but, you may
have to charge it for a few minutes during the day.......

I think you would have had me at "Hey"

Hurry up September 15th - this wait is killing me!!!!!!!

Screen size is only a part of the equation. Let's say you had an S8 and Note8 on for 12 hours and used both for 1 hour screen on time. Do you think the results will be that much different? I don't.

"95% battery life remaining and available after two years usage". Based on lithium battery use across multiple platforms, I call that Samsung statement complete B.S. unless the phone is turned off 23.5 hours a day for two years and run for thirty minutes one time a day to check email. Really? Anyone who actually uses their phone... do you believe the 95% Sammy statement? 🙄

What he said, exactly how I feel. #right

The wait is killing me too. I feel like a druggie who needs a fix.

Well, you completely misunderstood it.

Batteries start of with 100% charge capacity, that degrades over time with multiple charge cycles. (that's running the phone then charging it up again to 100%).

The battery on the S7 Edge is rated to keep 80% charge capacity after 2 years. Meaning after 2 years of average use, a full charge of the S7E battery is equivalent to 80% of a brand new battery.

On the S8/Note8, they are rated to be still at 95% capacity.

Marketing spin . Samsung's own testing shows battery life in between the 8 and 8+. Same tech and OS. No magic bullet, but can almost guarantee some posting absurd battery life claims. SOT of TEN hours! ;)

I'm using an S8 ATM. I'm quite happy with the battery. If N8 can go at least the same with that extra 300, I'm more than satisfied.
15 hrs with 8hr 15min sot.

Agreed, If the N8 can run on par with my day one S8+ that will work for me :) There are many ways to keep your device battery running strong and options for topping off if needed.

Cheers,
