Intermittent Problem Charging 5x from Car Charger

My Nexus 5x more often than not will stop charging a few seconds after being connected to a car charger.

I'm using Android 7.1.1 and a 1-amp charging adapter from the local drugstore.

I have no problem charging from a wall socket, and there are times the car charger works okay as well.
