Internal memory

Does the internal memory have a faster read/write speed than the pre-installed SD card ?

Yes, almost certainly...if they are using "normal" memory chips inside.

But the docs keep referring to it as "internal SD"....so it might just be an SD Card you cant remove (which would be weird). But the fact that SD is solid state doesnt necessarily mean it is fast....my hard drive on my computer is much faster.

I'm trying to figure out the best memory management. I have 7.55gb or music and about 700mb of pictures/videos right now. Trying to figure out where I should store the different media.

I wanted to keep it all on the SD card but the write speed is terrible on a class 2 card. In the past it has caused my HD videos to playback really choppy

Honestly, unless you are using really big files you will probably not notice the difference. Most files on smartphones are tiny by PC standards (a few megs at most). You would probably only see a difference if you benchmarked it.

Pictures will be a meg or so, and video will stream. You might notice it with some of the bigger games, but I doubt it even then.

That being said, I tend to store all my media on external memory and installed programs internally...that way if the phone breaks or I need to transfer without using the phone I can just yank out the SD card, stick it in an SD reader, and transfer it that way. If my phone breaks I can just transfer the SD card to the new phone and all my media with it. And media files are completely independent of any installed programs, so no need to worry about breaking anything with the transfer.

Maybe it was just the incredible 2 that had that choppy problem.
Also the HD videos can be a couple hundred megs.

But I do like keeping everything on the card for the same reason as you.

Yes, but the phone is streaming those. It doesnt load the whole video to play it. Thats why videos start immediately no matter how big or small they are.

im almost out of space already and i might be upgrading to a larger card soon

Newegg has 32gb cards starting at $39. There a few cheaper, but I don't like using off-brand memory cards in phones. I think they have class 4 Sandisk micro-SDHC for $39, and then one for $49 with an SD adapter.

The way I see it the internal is my 10gb USB drive. Or I'll use it when I dl a really large movie. Otherwise everything goes on the external card

I've never really cared about this or even looked into using it myself but another option is, cloud storage for your media files. Then dl them to the SD card, when you need them. Just transfer them from SD back to the cloud when your done w/ them.

I have a dropbox account for this. But you have to remember to upload everything. Wit-everything on the SD that's not an issur

So if it's streaming, would pausing the video help the choppy thing? Pausing and letting it buffer

That only matters if you are streaming over a network. If you are "streaming" from a hard drive or other local storage, you will never ever see stutters or pauses. Even the slowest local storage wont do that.

I picked up a 32gb class 10 microsd for $60. I put everything I can on it and it's fast and smooth.

Last time I tried a class 10 card was on my og incredible and it didn't work well. Maybe it wasn't a good enough processor.

Anyway, the pre-installed card is OK for now. I have 6.4gb left on it. Do you think it's a better idea to get a 32gb card or just use the 16gb card up and then put stuff on the internal memory?

I installed a 32 gig that I was using in my Charge. I erased everything on it, but my rezound still says it is only 16. Any help? Do they need to be formatted for the Rezound? If so, how do you do it.

Don't know why that would be. I just formatted on my PC. It worked fine.
