Hi everyone, I tried this link and it it doesn't work... Can someone help?

"TB specs advertise 8GB internal storage but available storage is 2.41GB.
No Solution: Tracking discussion here. <---- NEW 3/22"

Also when I plug in my phone into a PC it show up as a CD drive, tries to install AD(?) files, then asks me to load a CD.

Just got the TB yesterday, so for only these two issues.

Thanks

it's trying to install ADB shell, a program used most commonly seen in these forums in rooting/pushing commands to your phone---but is capable of a ton of stuff. you don't need to install it unless you know your way around the program. if you've never heard of it, i wouldn't suggest attempting to run it.
i cancel that installation each time---
i also cancel the installation of HTC Sync or VZW Media Hub---which is what could be prompting you to load/install a media cd

after you cancel each installation, your computer should display (most likely) with a pop-up menu asking if you'd like to browse files, copy media, etc--just cancel out of that screen, too
desktop>start>my computer>removable disk space (probably labeled Drive F or any other letter you're not used to seeing at this screen)
click on the removable disk space Drive & you should see your files.

as for the link that you're referencing---are you asking why it isn't posting correctly, or why you can't click on it to follow it?

Project, thanks for the quick response. The link is invalid for me and I was hoping that I would be able to read the discussion. I was wondering about only seeing 2GB of internal storage in the phone itself.
So thanks again.

No problem,
i searched for that thread, by the way:

"Reported Problem: TB specs advertise 8GB internal storage but available storage is 2.41GB.
No Solution: Tracking discussion here. <---- NEW 3/22"

so, you're not missing anything from that thread.

however, further research yielded this thread:
Where is the other 5gb space balance from 8gb internal? [Archive] - xda-developers

few answers---not necessarily all reputable people or verified correctly, but from speculation:
*The main culprit is the VZW Navigator. The map for all of NA is stored there and that is a few gigs by it self. The second culprit is the Let's Golf app from Game Loft. Rock Band is not preinstalled on the phone that's downloaded as an .all on first run.
*Htc rep I spoke with at launch stated some space is bloat but there's more space for future proofing the phone. Androids OS keeps growing and htc wants the bolt to be able to update past gingerbread to ice cream and so on.

ALSO:http://www.droidforums.net/forum/htc-thunderbolt/133245-internal-memory-3.html

"According to the HTC forums, they partitioned the card. From Almost 70% of Internal Memory is Missing. - HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon) - Android Forums - HTC Community see the second to last post on page 4. "Says 4GB right there.. Also Its being reported by a well known android hacker/developer Scott Walker that the eMMC is 8GB however it is Formated to 4GB is SLC mode. So basically is a Mini-Raid. Because eMMC memory has a high Failure rate, its done in this manner so that failure reporting will be less."

So, they take an 8GB card, format it to 4GB to have less errors, then reserve 1-2GB for the OS leaving us with 2.5GB.

Thanks again... Don't know if this would have impacted my choice of phone.. Just doesn't seem right.

I'll try not to talk over my own head here because I can't find the source I read this from. The article indicated there is a S switch that is defined in the base OS that can be set to S=on which would create the SLC dual 4gb partitioning or S=off which would make all 8gb available but would remove the mirroring safety net. The author claimed it was an "admitted mistake" on the part of HTC to set S=on for the Thunderbolt and it would be changed in a future software release.

Again, I wish I could remember the source because the author may have been talking out his butt and now I'm helping spread misinformation but at least the explanation of the partition size seems to jive with Project's post.

ha, O/P, of course---i just hooked up my phone to run as an Emulator for AppInventor, and i see it plugged to the computer as a CD drive, too...

oy.
