Sprint Nextel Corp. will begin selling the iPhone 5 in mid-October, people familiar with the matter said, closing a huge hole in the No. 3 U.S. carrier's lineup and giving Apple Inc. another channel for selling its popular phone.
The timing, however, indicates Apple's new iPhone will hit the market later than expected and too late to contribute to sales in the company's fiscal fourth quarter, which ends in September. Most observers had expected the device to arrive next month.

I'll believe it when Apple announces it. It would be great if Sprint and T-Mobile could both carry this phone, but people have been writing about both carriers having the iPhone for ages. Can't help but be a bit skeptical about it.

I'm with lds710. Just ordered a Photon, but will definitely pay full price for the iPhone.

I'll pass but at least Sprint Will get and retain more customers.

I agree 100%. Getting the iPhone will increase the customer base, especially if they offer the unlimited everything plan with it. In an ideal world, this will put more money in Sprint's pockets, and they will in turn use that money to build out their networks (WiMax and/or LTE).

My fear is that when the iPhone hits, people will move to Sprint for unlimited data, and they will begin eating up bandwidth, and everyone's service will suffer, much like AT&T did when they got the iPhone.

Either way, it is a good thing for Sprint. We will just have to wait and see how affects everyone else. Personally, I am sticking with Android. I like the customization and the flexibility. To me, iOS is something for people who want a smartphone, but don't want to be able to make any personal adjustments. It is so easy, I know 3 year olds who can use an iPhone, but it is so simple, that 3 year olds can use it (if that makes sense).

I am hoping if it does drop on sprint that they willhave their own data plan that will pertain to that specific group. Kind of like how the premium data was for the evo but a little bit more involved for the iPhone.
I don't see Amit more usage coming from this though. You android people use a boat load of data and I don't have any problems surfing or calling like AT&T did back in the day.

Looks like I'll be biting into the proverbial Apple ;)

What do you not like about your Nexus S? just curious. Personally, I think the iPhone is a slick, elegantly designed product (like most of Apple's wares) and true, it's really easy to use. That being said, I think they are super boring and EVERYBODY has one. Aside from different cases, they all look the same when the screen is turned on. Boringgg...no customization at all. I'll let the sheeple jump on the iPhone, I'm sticking with my Evo.

I'm glad, however, that Sprint is getting this device and that people will have more options. I hope to see Sprint continue to rebuild its subscriber base and thus its network.

I think the iPhone coming to Sprint is good. My biggest complaints with the iPhone are that you are locked into the "Apple" world, and that it does not have many options for customization.

I used to have an iPod, and I have spent a lot of time converting stuff over to use on my android devices. I also really like the fact that I can change my phone so dramatically, whether it is with widgets, homescreens, or launchers. I prefer to have those options. Also, I like the larger screens on most android smartphones.

By the way, I also just switched from an NS4G to the Photon. My NS4G got horrible reception and the signal strength (wifi/4G/3G) was very spotty, no matter where I was at. I coughed up the dough and bought a Photon (sold my Nexus). It is a much better phone, IMO. I have an EVO that I use for work, and I think the Photon and EVO are two of the best phones I have ever used.

As long as it doesn't affect "Sprint's unlimited data plan," because if it does... Sprint's problems will then be our nightmare.

I have had the iPhone 3g, 3gs, and 4 and while they are well built and very easy to use, I just had no idea what I was missing until I switched to android. Customization, flash, a much friendlier market place, etc.

Never will I go back to an Apple device. I just despise ITunes and the Apple App store, and don't even get me started on the antenna issue of the iPhone 4....brings back bad memories. Lol

September 16th will be a happy day for me!:-!

I'll be jumping ship to the iPhone - without question.

I had an EVO 4G - and was decently happy with it - first phone I've kept for more than 6 months - however, the battery life was terribe and overall it was a laggy phone for me.

I didn't root the phone - and frankly - I REFUSE to root an Android phone to make it work better because I shouldn't have to root it to make it work better.

I now have a Nexus S 4G and I hate that phone with the very core of my being - it was a replacement for my EVO, since the power button broke off of my motherboard (no clue as to how THAT happened). EVOs were on backorder, and I had a choice of waiting on an EVO, the NS4G, and the EVO Shift...I didn't want to wait the 3 months for backorder (or so I was told by the rep), and I wasn't going to downgrade to a Shift, so I went to the NS4G, and I regret it daily. The battery life is marginally better, but still CRAP, it doesn't integrate with facebook (without hacks), and the Wi-Fi which I was told would save my battery drains it even faster...Yep, I'm done.

I'm jumping ship, and quite happily. If Sprint doesn't end up with the iPhone, I may try to get out of my contract with my 4 phones (with the fee change that's coming up), and go to Verizon or AT&T for the iPhone. I'm that done with Android.

same here, I'm sick of having to root Android to be able to do what it should be able to do. Plus I'm sick of manufacturers abandoning phones after a year.

And if Sprint goes tiered then I'm dropping them for Tmobile or att. No point in staying for lesser service.

Sprint to retain unlimited data plan when it gets the iPhone say sources

Sticking with Android myself (hoping the Nexus Prime makes it way to Sprint), but as long as they keep the unlimited plan, this is a good deal for Sprint.

I agree Apple support for there phones are superior to android mfgs and unlimited data with iphone would be the only compelling reason for me to stay with sprint especially in my area where att 3g service is a lot faster.
