I finally got to try out an iPhone 4 to compare to the Evo and I was VERY surprised - I wasn't impressed. (While I WAS impressed the first time I used the Evo. I'm not a huge Android UI fan - WebOS is MUCH better - but the Evo is a fantastic phone).

From everything I'd read, I'd expected to be so impressed and feel like it blew the Evo away, but in reality, I came away feeling, "It's basically the iPhone 3 with a sharper screen and better camera. Meh."

* The screen is good, but while it is sharp it's not that much better in actual use than the iPhone 3 and it feels small after using the Evo. Much less screen real estate

* The camera was better than iOS 3, but the Evo has fantastic zoom on it's camera

* The touchscreen is just as responsive as 3, so better than the Evo but nothing new

* The "keyboard" still sucks

* The form factor was good (nice and thin) but it just looks outdated on the front

* Not impressed by the fake multi-tasking. WebOS blows it away.

Meh.

After this, I'm even more sold on the Evo.

Nicely put. Iphone4 has a lot of buzz about it. But to me it is the same old, same old.

A lot of people here at work have them. And I'm just not impressed. To me they still come off as an Ipod touch that just happens to have a phone app.

And while not very kind of me. I do love the looks on thier faces when they come by and catch me taking break with the kickstand up and watching a movie or some TV.

I basically agree that after playing with an iP4 it came off to me as basically an iP3. I really couldn't get it to do much that made that much difference to me over iP3. I own a iPod Touch, which I really only use as a music player when I travel, but the iP4 didn't seem like a big deal when trying it.

Maybe it's different when you actually use it day to day. Maybe not.

Evo is a beast when you play with it. Not my ideal smartphone, but definitely different with obvious capabilities over most other phones.

A fast and powerful WebOS device with a great keyboard and a 4" screen?? ...maybe someday.

I was following the live feed of WWDC event when Steve Jobs was showing his new baby off to the crowd. Right after the much hyphed show off event, that was my thought as well - pretty much the same as the 3GS with some upgrade but not revoultionary as Steve puts it. I also bought some Sprint stocks right after the event hoping for our Evo and Sprint pair well or beat the shxx out of their pretty new baby.

I love my EVO and I couldn't choose any other phone on the planet over it if I had my pick, but I cannot say that the new iPhone isn't incredible. I think the design is flawless, multimedia is the best I have ever seen, gaming is unmatched, and the web browser is still one of the best around even without flash support. If there wasn't the antenna issue, I would say that it would be very close to the EVO. It's an amazing device. I'm sorry to hear that it is having so many hardware problems. It could have been one of the greatest.

To be honest... if the Iphone had a bigger screen it would be a completely differen story. But it still has the same old 3.5" screen, making the 4.3" Evo screen (even though less quality) still comparable.

Once you go past 4", you can't go back.

@Dwayne Sorry but I strongly disagree about the web browser. The Safari web browser on iPhone to me is absolutely horrid. I've had the chance to use the iPhone 4 many times and I absolutely hate it with a deep passion down to my core. I get annoying and pissed off every time I go on it. It makes me wanna kick babies.

Hmm....that's what she said? LOL

As far as touch responsiveness goes, I find the Evo and the iP4 to be on even ground there, I am amzed by how responsive the screen is on the Evo, much more so than on the Pre.

As far as webOS goes....wow...they're really draggin' it aren't they? 2700 Apps!!! Yay?? I don't miss it one bit. There is not one feature where I could say, damn I wish I had my Pre back.

And screen size...yeah...coming from the Pre, whenever I looked at an iPHone I was "impressed" by its screen size, but after having an Evo, it just looks like a tiny little toy in comparison.

Even the Samsung Captivate 4" screen in the video on Android Central looks to be just barely bigger than the N1.

Oh yeah...one more thing....I remember this thread about what Pre users miss when going to the Evo, and some people said the web browser? Do what? The Evo browser is way smoother, faster, no checker boarding, and when you post in forums, you can actually see the whole text and don't have to pan back and forth like you do on the Pre. And with Flash Lite you still get way more functionality than that POS browser in webOS.

The iphone will never have a bigger screen. Apple wants to sell you TWO devices instead of just one. The toy phone and the toy tablet. Another reason to run to freedom of the Android platform.

My EVO has cut down on my laptop time immensely. It is the closest so far to the one device to rule them all. Maybe a six inch screen would be perfect? Just small enough to fit in the pocket.

Lol. What's wrong with the iPhone's browser that makes you want to kick babies?

No way. Put your finger on the screen while showing some list on the Evo and then move it back and forth VERY quickly. It'll move 95% with your finger. VERY good. Now do it on an iPhone. It's like it's GLUED to your finger. It 100% follows your finger even if you move it super fast! This is one thing that holds true all the way back to iPod Touch 1.

That and the UI. I hate it. With a passion lol. I get so ****ing pissed when I use the web browser man. I hate the one button **** too. I love the dedicated menu and back buttons on Android. Makes things So much easier. I will never ever understand the hype of the iPhone OS. It's horrible. I mean absolutely terrible. Folders and icons. Thats what the big rave about the OS is about? Are you ****ing serious??? That's pretty archaic if you ask me, FAR from revolutionary. I feel like I have a serious case of ADD when I use the iPhone. Nothing makes me so bored so fast than the iPhone. I get to the point where I just swipe left to right as fast as I can on the "home screens" because that's just about as much as fun as you can have with the IOS. I seriously have more fun watching my dog lick his balls than with the iPhone....
Ok.. im done..
