iPhone and Android apps spying on you...

Not completely surprised, but I guess actually seeing a study done about it hits a little harder... More needs to be done to protect our privacy....


"An examination of 101 popular smartphone "apps"?games and other software applications for iPhone and Android phones?showed that 56 transmitted the phone's unique device ID to other companies without users' awareness or consent. Forty-seven apps transmitted the phone's location in some way. Five sent age, gender and other personal details to outsiders."

Sadly this doesn't surprise me in the least. And I'd be interested to see what Apple's response to this would be seeing as how they have "Strict quality control" in their App Store. But I definitely agree more needs to be done to protect users privacy. All kinds of information could be pulled from these sort of things, including phone numbers. Mobile security is going to surpass the importance of PC security, I can almost guarantee that.
