There were rumors of an ir blaster. Do we know if there was any truth to them?

Not true. Also, in 2019... Why? (Yes, I'm also happy the hadphone port is going away)

That makes it easy for me to keep my Note9. Would have been a tough decision if Samsung brought back the ir blaster. All of my devices at home still use ir.

I'm surprised this info hasn't leaked early. The official announcement is what tomorrow?

Could it have something to do with the rumored Sound on Display like maybe an air port or something?

Well, I can say that I have no info to the contrary. Lots of reviewers point to the extra hole/sensor in the mockups for casemakers and suggest that it is an IR blaster. I haven't heard any confirrmation to the contrary. Anyway, we've all got about 28 hours left to get our speculations in, and then we'll know for sure!

Because a lot of people still have use for them. You may not, but I'd use both often. The active members here tend to be more technically inclined and moved to newer devices that connect via apps and such. A large portion of the population haven't replaced their stuff and have plenty of use for those features.

We'll see after 2pm today but I sincerely doubt Samsung will put anything that useful in a brand new device. Instead we will see gimmicks gadgets and bands that won't be available for years.

I long for the day Samsung returns to flat screens on phones and dumps the selfie hole.

Exactly. I grew used to losing the IR Blaster when Samsung and LG finally ditched it then when I went Huawei I gained it back again years later. Can't believe they never kept them on all devices and I use it daily. Sure many smart tv's etc have WiFi remotes but IR never plays up with a poor WiFi connection and it works to power your devices on and off where WiFi remotes require your TV etc to be powered up first

So what was the extra sensor opening that pundits THOUGHT was an ir blaster?
