Is a mid-April Launch Date possible?

I'm not in the wireless industry but it seems to me like a mid-April launch date for the rumored Motorola Fighter is pretty unrealistic.

Wouldn't there have been more leaks regarding this phone if it's that close to being launched? Isn't there some lead time required for training and distribution?

I hope I'm wrong - I'd love to see the Fighter be released in mid-April. I was thinking about getting a Razr Maxx but I wasn't impressed with the screen quality, screen size or camera performance. It appears the Fighter will address all of these concerns.

That's four weeks from now, so its possible. But, sometime later in Spring, or even mid summer, is more likely.

IIRC, the Rezound pics leaked about a month and a half before it released. I think it's possible, however, I've yet to see a Verizon rumored release date that has stuck in forever.

What makes me nervous is the reason for lack of leaks is a incremental RAZR update, like the MAXX.

Not cool enough to risk a job. Same reason the MAXX didnt have much info leaked prior.

As I mentioned in another thread, my bet is the Fighter is essentially the same phone that Motorola is selling in China - a larger Razr with a HD screen.

I doubt there will be any significant changes to the processor or any significant spec improvements - like wireless charging or NFC.

As before, this is not my area of expertise and hopefully I'm wrong.

April is a bit aggressive, but quite possible. I'd put my money closer to May, or maybe even early June.

As for leaks, the Maxx came out basically with no prior 'leak' (aside from CES, but it hit market like a week later), snuck up on everyone. So, its definitely possible that we won't hear anything about the phone until its announced for a release.

Right now is a bad time to buy an Android phone, to be blunt. Wait until at least May so the Droid Fighter and Galaxy S3, maybe even a HTC One phone can make themselves more known. Dont buy something now so close to something that could blow it away. Specs aren't definitively known yet, and once better leaks come around your choice will be less praying and more informed. At the same time, the catch 22 of tech is that there is always something better, so you have to gauge how long it will be worth it. Right now I'd say give it a month at least if possible...

OTA updates are always a pain, better to have it ship natively. trust me.

Thinner is doubtful, guessing it will be very similar to the maxx in most respects.

In summary, wait a month and see what develops.

This is an excellent point and in my opinion it's a good reason to wait three weeks or so to see what's on the horizon. Motorola did a really poor job with the Froyo to Gingerbread OTA on the Droid X - the update was so bad that people were trying to switch back to Froyo but Motorola kept pushing the OTA update.

On another note, it doesn't appear that the price of the Razr MAXX has dropped very much yet - it's possible there will be better deals in the weeks ahead as Verizon/Motorola have to compete with other new phones.

I like the Razr MAXX but I'm waiting to learn more about the Fighter.

I agree - we're only 10 days away and there's been almost no new information about the Fighter.

I remember when I was following the Bionic's pending release it seemed like there were a lot of reports from Verizon employees who were getting training on the new phone. It's been nothing but crickets for the Fighter.

On a different note, I just read AndroidCentral's review of the HTC One X and thought it was a great phone - especially the screen and the fact the phone has NFC and contact points for their docks. It will be interesting to see how the Fighter compares. (The HTC One X is headed to AT&T and it doesn't appear that Verizon will get a version anytime soon.)

I've always been a little apprehensive about Motorola phones and prefer HTC. That being said, I really like a lot of the Razr Maxx and think they really got something right about that phone (I like the design of the Razr and that battery in the Maxx is perfection) but they missed it on the screen and I haven't been too impressed with the camera. I'm optimistic that the Fighter should have all the bases covered, but I keep thinking there will be something that is fudged and keep me buying another HTC. IMO, Motorola has been 1 step behind for the last year and a half on a lot of things. I'd really like to see them hit it out of the park and make me choose one of their phones next time.

Its going to be like the RAZR. There were a few initial leaks just like the Fighter's, then nothing until VZW and Moto announced an event for it.

I'll concede that design is subjective but in my opinion the RAZR's not a great looking phone. While I like the use of Kevlar I think the angled corners look odd - as though Motorola was trying too hard to be different.

I also thought the bezels were too big on the RAZR - it's a big phone given its 4.3" screen size.

The corners are distinctive. Every other phone has straight or rounded corners; the razrs and photons angles made them unique. Definitely better looking than the sII or any HTC until the ones were announced.

Oh, and the bezels are a result of the extreme thinness. All the internals have to fit in somehow, and the only way to do it was to make the phone a bit wider.
