Question Is an absolute no ads system-wide possible (on android)?

I am exploring ad blocking options for the whole device, with/out root.
The best I found so far is a custom DNS, but since it's network level it can't block ads from apps that use the same domain for their service.
So I have to use modded versions of the apps. Is there any alternative, no matter how complex?

Welcome to Android Central forums. I think if you could find a device wide ad blocker you would be sipping Mai Tais watching the waves break on shore somewhere. What ads are you most concerned about? For me I found that using a VPN blocks most ads for what I do, which is basically gaming. The only other app that I can think of that I use regularly with ads is Tapatalk. The VPN doesn't seem to stop those ads, but in my games it's like they don't exist. On the downside of that I'm not able to watch an ad for some bonus or free life or whatever. I'm using NordVPN. I was using Surfshark but the deal they offered expired and I wasn't paying full price for the service. If you look around they all seem to have deals to get you in. I think I got 2 years of Nord for 24 bucks or something. Pretty sure Surfshark was 3 years for something like 30 bucks. Some of the deals are stupid like that.

The only other place I can think of getting ads is in the browser but I do very little just straight up in the browser and if I am using one it is for something specific in which case I'm on and off, but many browsers have extensions to block ads.

You may find yourself regretting the modded apps, and wish that you’d simply accepted ads in the first place.

Besides, modded apps are not an allowed discussion topic here. One of the main reasons people use modded apps is to get around a paywall, which means the devs who worked hard to create the apps don't get paid. We strongly encourage users make use of any option to pay to remove ads from an app -- otherwise, how else can devs get revenue?
