Is Anyone Else Having Issues With Bluetooth Devices?

================
So far, the Note 9 has been FANTASTIC; except for Bluetooth devices.
My success rate has been 33 1/3% as of now.

I had issues with Ford Sync, Huawei Watch, and Blue Ant Pump Bluetooth ear buds.

Ford Sync
---------
Following the standard procedure, Ford Sync said "No Bluetooth Devices Found".
I reversed the process, and searched from the phone.
It found and paired Ford Sync. That was my success.

Huawei Watch and Blue Ant Pump
==============================
Neither of these devices can find the Note 9, nor it them.

It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, rather one of software or firmware.

The Blue Ant has no way of getting updates, but the Huawei Watch does, and also interfaces through a phone app (Android Wear).

Of course, if the phone gets the watch or ear buds in it's database, I can reverse search like with Ford Sync.

If there are no updates, I can consider updating to new devices. But not for 6 - 8 months.

Workarounds
===========
I don't really use my phone for listening to music.
If I want to, my plug in Beats Earbuds sound really great on it.

I also don't use the Huawei as a data device. For me, it's a watch.
If no updates for 6 - 8 months, I'll have to set the time manually. (Yuk)

Have you checked the documentation to see if there's a way to make the earbuds or the watch discoverable? Or if they're only discoverable for a short time after turning them on? (One of my Motorola headsets is only discoverable for about a minute after being turned on.)

My note 9 pairs nicely with my 17 charger stock stereo for bluetooth use. I've only had it bluetooth with headphones twice and it seemed to work well.

No issues with my 2013 Merc GL550 or the multiple BT headphones/devices I have paired with it.

Mine paired just fine to my F150 and multiple bluetooth devices. Haven't had a issue yet.

The documentation for both is very scant, basically run the app and pich your device from the list.

I successfully deleted and re-paired the S6 phone on both devices by selecting the list. With the Note 9, the "lists" were a blank page.

no issues with 2 Audi MMI systems, plaintronics legend and Jabra elite 65T

Me and my wife was never able to connect our s7 edge or note 8 to Ford sync. I don't think it's the phone but ford sync isnt updated to accept android's as much as iphones

Try what I did. Tell the phone to search for bluetooth device. It should come up with "SYNC" on the list, then pair to that. It's reverse engineering, but it worked for me.

If I remember correctly, I had SYNC searching so it would be active for the phone to find.

No issues here. Paired with my Ford Sync no problem first try. Paired with about 6 other devices without issue as well. Using the Galaxy Watch, so I haven’t tried pairing with my Huawei Watch.

Today I got my laptop paired up. So I tried the BlueAnt Pump earbuds again.

Google told me how to perform a Reset, with power on hold + and - for six seconds.
Then I discovered: if I keep holding the Play key after it starts blinking, it will then blink fast.
That seemed to put it into pairing mode, and it's working. Poor documentation.

All that leaves now is the Huawei Watch. I'll Google more information on it. The phone Bluetooth seems to be OK.

My Final Input

The Huawei Watch is now connected.

I saw numerous threads saying you had to do a system reset on the watch to get it paired. I didn't want to go through that, but finally gave up. After the reset I got a pairing invite from the watch, and it paired. Then it got stuck in a loop "Finish Setup on the Phone". Poor documentation didn't mean "on the phone", it meant "in the Android Wear App". But now, it was too late. I couldn't break out of the loop.

I had to un-pair, then reset the watch again. This time I ignored invites, and opened Android Wear. I was expecting a big hassle getting everything set up, but my Note 9 actually provided all the info. The only thing I'm missing is my favorite watch face, I can't remember where I downloaded it.

Oh well, I finally got everything working. Hope the next upgrade goes smoother, the Note 9 might transfer everything over.

Facer?

p.s. unless they changed recently, you always had to reset Wear OS watches to pair with new devices. It’s not the Note 9. It’s Android Wear (Wear OS)

No problem here with my Note 8 nor my wife's S9+ connecting to 2011 Ford SYNC.

Don't know which version of SYNC you have but maybe you have an older version of SYNC and that has an issue.

You didn't read my first input. Ford SYNC was my initial success.

I didn't know they needed a reset to pair with new devices, but I do now.

My Gear s3 Frontier Watch was paired to my s8 so I had to back the watch up and reset it and then pair to my n9 and then used the back up.

Process was painless and fast.

Paired to my Bose Wireless Headphones with no issues.

No issues with pairing Bluetooth devices, but staying connected with a couple of speakers has been frustrating.
