Is anyone else underwhelmed by the 5?

Why....what did you see that excites you?
I think the smaller size will attract many former users who left only because Apple abandoned smaller phones. ios 14 now allows customization, to some degree, which is exciting to iPhone users. They are providing many choices this year. I think those reasons will make them sell very well.

I'm still on the fence between the 5 and 4a 5g. IMO both are underwhelming compared to something like Samsung flagships but are upgrades to my P3XL.

The wireless charging is a biggie for me - BUT - saving 200 is not all that bad either - I'm on the waitlist for the 4a 5G and pre-ordered a P5 - in the cell phone world things are just "place order" or "cancel order" away.

So far I've heard mostly underwhelming comments about the IOS 14 customization. Haven't tried it myself yet.

I would say mostly size. My first iphone was the 4 and then later the SE which became my favorite device alongside some HTC android phones I was using at the time and later Pixel phones. Seeing the iPhone return to that form factor and the ery pocket friendly size attracts me. The tech specs are also very nice. I think aside from the top notch camera on the Pixel, for the same price the iPhone mini offers more technically. OS preference is a different factor.

My smartphone use has changed dramatically to the point I only check emails, take calls, and sometimes browse reddit. Anything else I need a bigger screen for I just use my laptop. I may stick to the Pixel A lines for my Android fix and iPhones for productivity purposes.

Time will tell though. I'm in no rush to preorder either device and I usually wait for reviews, particularly when it comes to battery life through the day (which I already know the mini has a smaller capacity).

EDIT: The iPhone mini 12 is actually more expensive when buying unlocked as opposed to going through carrier. Sneaky Apple!!!

If you've had nothing, something is good!
The actual widgets are beautiful and can be stacked, which is a nice touch. No where near the customization that Android allows but I still believe it will draw people to iphone. We'll see though.

I'm actually downloading it as I type on my iphone Xr. It may have been sitting there awhile but I just now checked

I’m using the iPhone 11 Pro plus and I’m not impressed with the “personalization” Apple now offers. It is clunky and any apps to customize are for purchase mostly. I’m at a point in my life where I don’t need the latest and greatest. What I need is dependable with a great camera. I don’t stream. Don’t game. Don’t do much except social media and calls and texts and I have to have good camera!

Widgets are nice but there really is not any other customisation and the icons still wrap from the top not the bottom. There is also a lovely additional gap added between the dock and first row which serves no purpose at all other than to bug the hell out of me!

Don't get me wrong it is better than before but still feels half baked to me.

According to the verge review the speakers are fine for phone calls but lack bass for music and videos and are less enjoyable than previous pixels for those applications. The pixel 5 uses a panel speaker technology for the top speaker, and regular bottom firing speakers for the bottom.

They loved the phone overall but did say the missing neural chip affected photo processing time, which bugs me. But didn't get into specifics. I mean if it's a couple tenths of a second I won't care.

Well I've been watching all the reviews that have finally made their way on YouTube. The overall feeling I get is that it is a great device, most say it should be at least $100 cheaper, but despite the positive reviews there isn't any feeling of excitement coming from the reviewers. Then again most are spoiled by being able to test those really expensive flagship devices.

For what it is, it seems to be a great phone but I have decided to pass on the Pixel 5. I do feel underwhelmed by it. Now just waiting for other phone reviews to determine whether this is the year to change devices for me or just stick to my Pixel 3A XL that I do love.

I just cancelled my pre order after watching a few reviews. There's really no reason to upgrade coming from a 4xl besides battery life.

If the camera on the OnePlus 8t were better, I'd probably be pre-ordering that. As it stands, it looks like I'll be be holding off on upgrading for a while.

The only real reason I wanted to upgrade was because I'm getting the itch... I haven't upgraded in about 3 years now, and I'm a huge pixel fan. I think the 5 is a solid phone for the price, but it's not exciting me in the way a new phone should after 3 years lol. It's actually a little boring. And I don't plan on paying extra through AT&T for their so called 5G.... which we'll never see in our rural area. So I think I might pass on the whole 5G hype and put the money into an exciting 4G phone instead.

When you wait 3+ years between phones you want the new one to be special. The pixel 5 isn't special enough....at least for me ;-)

I'm not too well versed on this 5G business. Are carriers charging you extra for having a phone that uses 5G regardless of whether you buy it unlocked from manufacturer (straight from Google or Apple) or through the carrier itself? In other words a higher phone bill if the carrier detects you using 5G?

My understanding is you can't even get 5G if you don't pay for it through your provider. I don't use much data because I am usually on wifi so I only have the 2GB single plan. I usually have data to roll over each month..that's how little I use. So I looked at what it would cost me to get 5G and I'd have to get an Unlimited Plan at $75 before taxes and fees plus another $10 for 5G. I am paying $55 now before taxes and fees. Not worth it for me being 2 hours away from any big city in central PA. Maybe down the road but I'm not changing my plan yet.

$599 ok, but certainly not $699. I may reconsider if/when google offer deals on the 5
