Is anyone happy with their wood back phone?

Got a code for a new moto X due to issues with my 2013. Had planned on getting a bamboo back version, but am seeing hardly anything positive said out there, regardless of where it is. Are there that many issues with the wood backed moto x's?

The main issue is with the backs lifting up slightly in the corners. I have a bamboo back and mine is coming away slightly on one corner. Annoying for a new phone, and to be honest, a bit inexcusable for such an expensive flagship phone. BUT apart from that I love it. And I ordered it knowing about the lifting issues. I still couldn't resist ordering it. At the end of the day its not as if its not fixable. If you buy one and the back lifts you could either return it to Motorola or just glue it down yourself and carry on. Not ideal, but if you really like the bamboo back then its something you will need to be prepared for. If you're not prepared to put up with it then I'd suggest not getting the bamboo back. For some its worth the potential hassle. For others its not.

I exchanged mine for a rubberized back. I had it for 2 days and the wood was already lifting. Overall I'm satisfied with the charcoal rubberized back, its grippier and seems much more sturdy.

Ive had the bamboo back version for a few months now with no issue. With that said I had hoped it would feel a bit more premium. It they were able to make it a bit thicker and not have a rounded back then it would be better, IMO. I also have the 16gb version. I am going to order a 32gb version and I will probably not get a wood back.

The rounded back is a bit of a double edged sword. The fact that its curved makes it feel nice in the hand. But put the phone on a desk and try to use it and it rocks and slides all over the place

Yeah, it is certainly a trade off. I feel as if it's more worth the added ergonomics because I rarely use my phone while it's laying on a table anyway.

My main beef with the rounded back is the peeling of the bamboo that I've read about. There are cases that can stop the rocking and honestly I rarely put the phone on a desk and look directly down at it.

I have one with a bamboo back (I posted photos of it in the Show your Custom Design thread) and the back is still in great condition - no lifting whatsoever.

I have had my phone for a month and a half.

Now I will knock on wood to keep it that way...

I loved mine but sent it back 4 weeks later. Now I have the gray backing and love it! No peeling.

However wood looks great. But the design left a lot to be lacking IMO.

What color is it called on the Moto site? I don't see charcoal. Thanks

3 months on, no issues whatsoever. If you're going to get a case, you might as well save your $25 though. If you get rubberized, get black, because it is the only soft touch one.

I have the teak x3 wks. No problems so far. It is so beautiful and feels so good. Hopefully the problems with the wood have been corrected. I don't want to give this phone back, and if possible, will not go back to old style phones again.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to just get a regular back, as I have had to deal with enough returns with my 2013 already. And since I may just sell it for an HTC m9 in a few months, it's just not worth the risk.

I got the bamboo back and I love it. I haven't any problems with it or the curved back. I find that in situations where the curved back could be an issue, I just use Moto Voice.

I love my Walnut back. It's gorgeous and is honestly a great conversation piece. You only hear the bad stuff about the wood backs here because the people with a bad experience are the most vocal.

I like my bamboo back, a month old no problems yet! Complimented all the time as I have it naked.
